I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on my suspension upgrade. I was pretty much decided on the OME setup with 885s and Dakar rears. There are tons of great reports on this setup, and I like that it is a pretty simple package. I had OME shocks on my Jeep JK Unlimited, and they served me well. I have looked into the Icon stage 2 system, and for the extra money it didn't seem to be the right way to go for me. But with Icon's 20% off black monday sale, the price difference is cut by several hundred dollars, and I'm thinking more about the Icons with Dakars (I will be pulling a trailer a fair bit)

I would appreciate any input or advice from members who have experience with the Icons. I will be using my Tacoma as my daily driver and for off road adventures on washboarded mining roads, forest access roads, and general back country travel. I have a Jeep TJ that I take out on trails that are more oriented toward rock crawling or have a likelihood of body damage, so I doubt I'll be adding plate bumpers or a winch to my Tacoma.

I have the money for either kit, but I don't want to spend a bunch extra if there is limited value from the Icons. Any thoughts?

I'm enjoying my icons currently. I cant compare them to anything but the stock setup, but i think they were worth the investment. I got the Icon aal, and thinking back i should have put in a bigger leaf package. other that I would recommend the Icons or similar.

Get the icons, they are rebuildable, and icon puts a lot of research and development into Tacoma's. Can't compare the ride between OME and icon, but I have icons and I feel it rides better than stock as it is also my DD.

How would you compare them to stock? In my opinion the stock ride is pretty car-like. Something more like a truck would be fine, as long as the the system is keeping the tires in contact with the road.

the sport suspension was amazing, almost car like. The icons are similar bit stiffer at slower speeds, noticeably better off roads, i still drive it like a sports car. it feels good.

Satoshi'd grill. blacked out badges. aftermarket sound system. De-chromed and color matched. OME 885s + Dakars with 3rd leaf removed. LR UCAs. Scs stealth 6 with 285 duratracs. BAMF sliders
Go with icon. I have had both icon coilovers and OME 885s with nitros on my truck. Icons ride much nicer on road. If ride quality is a big factor then IMO icon is worth the extra money.

Any of you Icon guys running Dakars on the rear? If not, what do you have and how are they working?

A little stiffer ride in the back, but not bad, drives like a truck should! The dakars gave me right at 23/4" of lift and a lot more hauling capability

A little more truck like would be just fine. How does it handle expansion joints in the highway while cornering with no weight in back? Dance around a lot? A little? Scary, manageable, well behaved?

    Thanks for the input! :)

No dancing, very well behaved. I drive it harder through corners now than when I had my stock sport suspension. All you will notice really is bit stiffer ride and I like the ride better than stock.

Check the "Group Buys" and the "Deals and Coupons" pages. Shouldn't have to search back more than a few days to find a thread in each one.

How often do Icon's need to be rebuilt and how much does it cost to rebuild? In the winter we get a lot of salt and crap on the roads and I don't want to be rebuilding them every year.
