Based on my anecdotal analysis from being on this forum, most of the problems are with the 2016s. It seems the 2017s are doing ok.

Which is why I have always been told to wait a year or two when a new model or gen is released. First productions always have issues.

The issues are following the 17s as well. In fact there is a 17 with 15k miles and was found to be 3+ quarts low on tranny fluid.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
...^^^... My 2004 Taco was my favorite tacoma ... super thin inside the tailgate skin ... but I still liked it.

Also liked ... a couple old 22R's with outside the bed - tailgate strap-locks and cargo hooks (and single thickness bed) made them even more fun ... lol

I've had my 2016 since May and I haven't had any problems other than my transmission seems sluggish and my MPGs suck.

Are you talking about this guy?

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3-25-quarts-low.465123/

If so, it says his vehicle is a 2016 model year...not saying there aren't issues with the '17s cause I'm sure there are.

That may have been the perfect Toyota Tacoma, but in my opinion this is the perfect Toyota truck period. :D

Yea that was the guy, could of sworn it was a 17. Either way I have heard plenty of 17s with low tranny fluid, needing TSB update, LCA not capped, and so on.
