2 weeks from now I'm taking the guys from church to a overnight camping. Was thinking vmuts but the drive is pretty far for overnight. Crystal lake little over 2 hours so may be better.

I did not have luck with the solid spacer. Of course I'm an amateur when it comes to setting up gears but when I went back to the crush sleeve it went all ok. I think the problem was I did not have the right shims. The crush sleeve is more forgiving. It will be well worth it. And your choice of traction, I like because you just put 80w90 and your done. nice

The comments say he bought it with blown transfer case and front diff, even if it can’t move and becomes lawn ornament, it’s still better looking truck than the new Temu Prado… parts are cheaper to bring it back to life as well, few months of lease/finance of the Temu cruiser. I was surprised to learn that the axles are worse than the same year GX/Tacoma/4Runner…. What are they thinking!

I'm adding a dc/dc charger to charge lithium batteries. It requires to a wire connected to a circuit that is only live when the truck is running. Any suggestions which circuit would work for that?

of my build thread shows where that "tap in" is on a 2014 tacoma. Maybe it will be helpful probably not because you 3rd gen but it might help.

Thanks for sharing the link to your build! Im basically doing the same as you. Building a removable box. I have all the parts just seeing how they will fit in the box now.

my one regret actually 2 regrets, was using a led acid battery ( to heavy ) and the dc/dc charger I got was only 30a or the smallest one but should of got the bigger one. was worried about load on the alternator and at idle dragging down the rpms. but its not rally something to worry about. Best of luck it will be well worth the hassle.

I went with a 40a dc/dc charger. The lithium batteries are definitely much lighter then the lead acid batteries but much more expensive. I found my batteries, inverter and cable on Marketplace.

Some DC-DC chargers don't need a Accessory power tap and will auto detect when the vehicle is running based off voltage. You run 2 wires to the positive on the battery, One thin for the voltage readout, and one thicker to hold the load. It will also use voltage drop to decrease the charge amps to not overload the alternator.

My truck at idle will only be able to pump out 20-30 amps usually. If i put the truck in high idle i can get 50A.
I have the Renogy 50A DC-DC MPPT. For some reason none of this in my build thread.

My recommendation as high idle mod. Hard or softwood doesn't make much difference.

I have a Renogy 40a dcdc charger. It requires an IGN signal wire for vehicles that have smart alternators.
