Here’s a question. Power steering coolers on the second gens.

from my understanding the fluid is getting warmed up from the radiator. So is a cooler necessary? I know the third gens have one stock (and their racks are so bad apparently it must be needed).

Just about to install a new rack (in a few weeks and wondering if a cooler would be a good idea.

    edit:
After doing the install, the power steering system is on its own. Not hooked to anything. Going to keep an eye and see how hot the fluid gets while on the trail.

Would be worth giving those a bit of a trim. I noticed my bolts are jamming into the bump stop mount/ stop.

Usually cut them flush or just slightly above the nut.

i get them snug with a wrench and then cut off the excess thread. i dont have a 7/8 deep socket either so have to trim before final torque. once torqued i end up with about 2-4mm of thread above the nut.

pic is before torquing and bumpstop removed. most specs say torque ubolts with weight on but since its a PITA to get in there with a torque wrench with the wheels on i just put a jack under the rear diff.

I measured ahead of time and cut my U-bolts on the workbench. I was OCD and ground a lead-in chamfer on each tip :anonymous:

If I cut them on the workbench I would have to run a tap lol. My luck of messing the threads on the nut would be high. I usually do it just like @honkonbobo does. I do have an deep impact to get them all the way down though. Helps, but some of the u bolts are super long.

I have never removed a dent. Any tips? Warm it up a bit to try and keep the paint from cracking?

I am going to remove everything from the inside of the door, and bang it out from the inside.

From a video or 2 I watched. I want a buddy on the outside, holding a phone book. Or something up against the dent, as I gently tap tapp tappp it out.

So far this is what I have come up with.

I'd take a toilet plunger or one of those suction handles and try that from the outside first.

if you go from the inside use a peice of wood like 2x2 or something and wrap the end with peices of cloth like old clothes then use that to push the dent out a little at a time. no straight edges...

    good luck

my tip is to exert the same amount of force that went into making that dent.
So don't hulk on it as you can certainly make it worse.
Toilet plunger is good, get a heat gun and warm up the edges of the metal where the dent starts and giver a yank.

I find pushing vs tapping helpful. I usually use a rubber mallet and use it to push against the dent. It will just pop out. Yours doesn’t appear to have any creases and could just be pushed out from the picture.

Edit: push the dent out not push against the dent. So you would be pushing out from the inside obviously. Just in case my sentence didn’t make sense.
