If you wheel it at all, those lower steps will get crushed in a hurry.

Not to put words in his mouth, but I believe he will recommend a set of Mobtown Offroad sliders.

I have a set of the bolt on with the filler plates. Love them.

I assume they bolt to the truck body (via the OEM supplied bolt holes) not the frame; my worry would be the steps getting ripped off the truck.

My truck came with Predators and I didn't care for them. I never used them as a step so I was climbing over or around them. Also, if they are muddy, it was getting on the back of my pants leg when I was getting out. I cut the steps off mine and now just have tubes. Just my personal experiences.

    To summarize:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/crap-welds-on-the-predator-tube-steps.403360/

Means mall crawling only. Even then that tube step design is prone to catching on things.

Rock sliders pay for themselves even as a mall crawler from the "door-ding-gnomes" .

I can personally count an easy half dozen door hits on my sliders.

One of our work trucks has tube steps on it, in 4 years the passenger side has had a bent bracket , rear cap pulled off, driver side is now pushed up at the front. End-cap is off on that one too.

Now if you want a set of sliders you can bolt on, without drilling. Look great , would provide a significant improvement in some side impact scenarios, and are stronger than you and your truck, take a serious look at these...

Will give you more confidence to take your truck off-road.

Go talk to the "guy with the hat" I'm glad I did, I even had them shipped way up into Canada because I liked his design and fitment so much.

    Where are you located?

I got the sliders because I was looking at steps, and realized that for the money, sliders have more function, for not that much more money. I got the fill plates so the boy can use them as a step.
I think Mobtown is having a holiday sale right now!!

I’m a factory guy, don’t need legit sliders so the predators were perfect. I have a couple small kids (less so as the truck gets older) and nobody has sustained any injuries on the steps.

Only downside is the local car wash won’t let me go through. But I’d rather go over to the hand wash place when I can’t do my own anyway so eff those guys... Also if you try to hop over them, they can tear some leg flesh (so my buddy claims but then... see my small kids’ experience above).

No regrets, get compliments on them to this day (in fact today), and no door dings! Honestly think it’s the coolest looking accessory Toyota sells for the truck.

You seriously can...I never understood nerf bars, when you can get sliders that actually serve a purpose other than steps.

If you are patient, you’ll probably find some being sold in the marketplace for around $350 which is still too expensive in my opinion.

    See https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/3rd-gen-tacoma-parts-marketplace-2016.202/

You can buy better steps for less money.

I think they’re having their Black Friday sale so I might just have to.... Barto/Bally area on the Montgomery/Berks Line.

After this thread I think I am going with rock sliders, I will admit they look absolutely amazing on your truck. How do you have the flag mounted in the bed? If you don’t mind me asking.

I would have to admit they do look pretty cool but would be absolutely afraid to rip them off and spending that much money. That was almost another big concern of mine. Ripping up my shins or say a kid sliding through and messing up their leg.

Any idea where ya get them from? Nerf?

I bought them on EBay. I was trying to find the exact seller but they don't seem to be around, plenty of other sellers with the same steps. I did have to modify the mounting brackets to get them to fit up against the rocker panel like I wanted. Oh it looks like they are around $130.00 now.

C4B56532-8540-478A-BF8C-37086D2D43E6.jpg I live about 125 miles from the nearest "mall." LOL. I don't rock crawl and if I am planning on 4x4ing beyond "normal" I remove the things. 5 easy bolts per side, about 5 minutes and 1 beer.
