I'm looking to consolidate a bunch of crappy guns (taurus) and buy a nice pistol that i can learn to shoot very well. So far I am leaning towards the p226 mk25.
It is undeniable the quality and craftsmanship that go into the p226 and the MK25 adds that "cool" factor.

On the other hand, it is friggen expensive. Even with the military/LE price it is still more than i ever thought i would spend on a single gun.

I'm trying to convince myself it is a good choice and one of the reasons i figured is that with the navy seals choosing the glock over the sig, the p226 contract will eventually expire and maybe it will be a sought after model. I dont plan on making money on a used gun just like i dont expect to make money on my truck when i trade it in. But it would be nice to have something special or desirable in the future if i do trade it in.

Am i lying to myself here and trying to convince myself that $850 is a reasonable price for a pistol? Or, should I just buy a sig P320 and be happy with the extra $400 in saving... maybe buy a trd pro grill with the extra money :quickdraw:

    Thanks ahead for any input

I used my military discount on the P229 and I don't regret the purchase one bit. It's still expensive but it's a fantastic gun and you're saving a lot off of retail with the discount. Plus you get extra mags and night sights. I never shoot my Glock 21 now that I have my P229. If you have the means, go for it. You're getting a top quality gun.

If the P226 is what you want, don't settle for anything less.

I have a Mk 25 that I bought about 2 years ago. I paid more for mine than the $850 you mentioned so you are already off to a better start. I am more of a rifle person, but the Sig is definitely one of the better pistols I have ever owned/fired. I have never had any issues with it. I don't shoot it a whole lot but it is my go to home defense gun. Regardless of it's huge price tag, I have never once regretted picking it up.

This is not specific to the gun you are looking at, just guns in general. Quality is expensive. It always has been. Adjusted for inflation, guns today are cheaper than they ever have been. 100 years ago you would spend a months salary on just about any gun worth having. Back then you owned fewer but better guns. Europe is still like that. The US has suffered from what I like to think of as WalMart mentality. We want cheaper priced, cheaper made guns that do the same thing as the more expensive ones. Manufacturers have obliged and replaced metal with all sorts of plastic and semi-metal parts and designed guns with sloppier tolerances to allow for a cheaper made product that still work. Surprisingly, most of the cheap guns made today are fairly good and serviceable.

I would rather have fewer guns that are high quality than a safe full of cheap stuff. Paying less than $1000 for a quality gun is really not that expensive. You will have it for a lifetime and you will definitely get your money's worth out of it. I've never bought a gun and wished later I had bought a lower quality one, but I've often wished for better.

Keep in mind that the MK25 doesn't include the SRT from the factory. They're cool (I own one in FDE) but if you own only one Sig and plan to shoot the thing I'd spend a little bit more and get a Legion. It's better in about every measurable way and is a much better shooter.

I'm lucky enough to live about an hour from the sig academy in epping and they have the same pricing as Quantico. I know they have cpo guns at the shop but they don't post that inventory online. I'm going to find out if they can do mil/le or special pricing on the legion
