It was a long day. Moral of the story is have good quality insurance.
Glad your ok, just be patient let your insurance handle it.

A note on aftermarket items and coverage, if covered be sure to also verify coverage amount.

When my garage door opener ate my back window/door frame on the cap, insurance covered up to $500 for aftermarket items. My adjuster included a nice *note* suggesting I consider increasing my aftermarket equip coverage amounts since I have so much of it installed (bumper, rack, cap, etc.).

In the case of the cap, total came to $569. After my $50 dollar deductible, they covered $450 and I was out of pocket for the diff. Those windows/doors on caps are not cheap.

I've had people tell me I'm nuts for having full coverage on a 19 year old truck. I just chuckle and remind myself they'll never understand.

The look the agent at AAA gave me when I told him full coverage on the 97 was the best. He thought I was joking.

Of course, it's why I made that comment about different insurance companies and even specific policy's.

Mine covers to no limit, and would fall under comprehensive; I carry a $0 deductible on my comprehensive and only $250 for collision.

The no limit part isn't exactly limited, but limited to the cost to replace said items whether I have receipts or not.

For instance, I had an old ipod stolen out of my Silverado on top of my Alpine faceplate (just the faceplate), and Oakley shades.

I received via direct deposit the cost to replace all 3 items. Funny thing about the ipod is I had bought it at a Gamestop used for super cheap and used it for music only in the truck. USAA paid me the equivalent of what a 'current' ipod cost to replace so I actually made money on the whole thing.

Which leads to the other philosophical consideration:

the at fault adjuster offers you $X.XX for the damages. You think you can fix it for less. Take the check and fix it to operable and maybe make a few bucks, or…

Accept no settlement, take it to the shop, bitch, complain, nit pick and ride their ass until it’s perfect, no matter the cost. They’re paying’, get the prime rib…

    The hell with settling.

As I stated above 'the OP did not ask to get hit'

He was driving his Tacoma, perfectly happy with how the whole setup was, until BAM, some idiot hit him and fucked his day up.

That in itself means I'm going to make sure his/her insurance company takes care of me to the absolute best of their ability (which they do have the ability to), otherwise I refuse to sign any agreements.

An insurance company wants to settle and 'close' as quickly as possible.

I'd start counting the days as well for loss of use since the vehicle is inoperable in its current state. Where you'll normally be compensated for a rental, if you chose not to take it, doesn't mean you're not entitled to the money that would've paid for said rental.

Just saying; I'd be the last person you'd want to get into an accident with :anonymous:

Turns out when I got my insurance I didn’t have collision coverage. I was young and had a lot to pay for when I bought this truck and couldn’t afford better. I’m so pissed.

If it's their fault, it shouldn't really matter what insurance you have.

That’s only if they accept fault. Otherwise he’s on his own to fight it out with them.

OP PM me if you have trouble with the other guys carrier. I’m sorry you found out this way about your coverage that stinks.

OP was hit by someone crossing a double yellow. If they're not at fault, that's absurd. But this is insurance, so you never know...

If there aren’t witnesses or a police report (the latter some ignore necessarily to some extent depending on the circumstances) it can very easily be a he said she said. Any carrier will side with their customer’s version of events if they differ in the absence of evidence to the contrary.

It can be easy peasy if the other guy is honest when giving his carrier his statement or it can frankly be a royal pain esp in the absence of collision coverage where his carrier could subrogate and fight it out for him should the need arise.

All that assumes dude doesn’t live in a no fault state IDK if I saw or it was said where this accident occurred.
