Those things are pretty sweet. Can somebody give me $30000 so I can buy a set of those, and a rear locker.

 

I read on the vehicle requirements, takes 30-35" tires, preferably soft compound like snow tires, no studs, and also no running boards. Probably would work with sliders as long as they are turned up a bit. Also says 5+ liter v8 for full size and v6 for mid size trucks. What I noticed on the video is that the dodge never tried to fly off the snowbank, but would only give it enough to get over. Makes me wonder how the "snow shoes" stay on. The chain underneath is probably a safety chain in case a track falls off a wheel.

 

Yeah these are designed for flat work. Don't want to go airborne. Those chains are slack much of the time. I think that they might be there to limit steering.

Dammnit this is frustrating..

Replacing my wheel bearings, had the shop next door press them in for me.

The dude working the press obviously wasn't paying attention because:

A.) One of my bearing faces got totally jacked up/scarred.. and the seal is pushed out, which leads me to believe that the force applied was uneven.

B.) I gave them the box with all of my seals/hub/bearings.. The inner seal surface of the bearing is clearly chamfered for the taller of the two seals. For whatever reason he wasn't paying attention and pressed in the outer seal instead of the inner. Now I'm stuck with the taller seal for the Hub/Spindle, which won't work because of the ABS speed sensor.

Goddamit.

The only was to replace that seal with the proper one is to press the bearings out, which means I've gotta cut the race.. and basically throw away a perfectly good wheel bearing.

Yet another reason why I don't like having other people do my work for me.

Fuck That Jake! Time to put on your "You owe me a new wheel bearing" pants and raise some hell. I can totally relate, I don't trust shops unless they are reputable and doing something beyond my abilities (i.e. diffs, aligment etc.)

If/when I need new wheel bearing, I think I will get them from BamaToy1997
