    Appreciate the votes.

Defiantly getting smoked. Curious what some of the guys could even do with it considering their builds.. But that's not how the game is played

Well I made it to Great Lakes Illinois. I made only one detour. I was a little disappointed after realizing how small it look. I wish I had made more time to hit up Yellowstone.

Sorry for the late story lol. Yeah, I got stuck in an undertow and pinned between rocks. My brother had to jump in and push me out of the bad current and according to him, it was a lucky aim because I was invisible under the white water. I was blacked out and everything, which we all know is the last stage before your lungs fill with water. Scariest thing that's ever happened to me! I came to luckily, I remember, still a couple feet under water, but noticed it was calm, swam up and my first breath was extremely painful!!! Took me forever it seemed to be able to catch a decent breath. I noticed when I reached the surface, that I was downstream from the hole I was in about 60 feet. Which I believe I was blacked out before he saved me, and floated under water downstream all that way until I came to...miraculous that I came to because I don't think I got oxygen, but maybe I did. Ryan, my brother, said that he struggled after pushing me from the rocks, and luckily could keep his head above water and another guy gave him his leg to grab. He said all he was thinking was, did I atleast get her out? Where is she? Makes me a LItTLE emotional still thinking about it, and everything from his side of the story. He's my hero. I couldn't sleep for 3 nights after (this was wednesday, almost two wks ago.) because everytime I would have any down time with just quietness trying to sleep, I'd be back in that dark washing machine (that's what it felt like, didn't know which way was up or where I was) and that helpless fear would be present. I will say though it was a freakishly calm experience, because as a kid, I was told if you're ever caught in an undertow, remain calm and let it push you out. I remember everything going silent and accepting this was the time for me. It was crazy calm. No fear (until I felt those rocks, then I knew it was over) I thought, really god, I'm going to be the one in the news paper this year?? I felt I had so much unfinicpshed business, and I remember my very last thought was I wish I had shown my mom I loved her better. It has really changed the way I think about life and the way I treat others. You always think that shit won't happen to you, and it's obviously can be the most random timing. When I finally got to shore, Ryan ran over and grabbed me and held me and all that fear I kept still in the water came out. I was hysterical, screaming and crying. I really had thought the worst. If he hadn't jumped in or even noticed I was missing, I wouldn't be here today.

Glad you are safe Linds. That's some scary shit. I almost drowned when I was a kid as well. Not the easiest thing to remember.

And, with a story like this, its ok to be emotional.

Thanks, it's one thing to struggle keeping your head above water (I've done that plenty). It's another story when you can't even see the light of the surface and the water is pushing you downward and against rocks, there's nothing you can do. Terrifying! I'm just such a water lover and outspdoorsy person, the last thing I want is to be afraid of being in it. There's so many people I know that won't go swimming because they are scared, that will not be me! I will be more careful though when it comes to white water. Not cool. Glad you didn't drown, always such sad stories when someone does drown.

I was 10. I felt the same way you did. Undertow grabbed me at the beach. Thankfully I had a lot of swim training as a kid. Mom was a collegiate swimmer in Oregon.

Ugh, never have had the desire to go swimming in the ocean, simply because it's 100x more unpredictable than any river.

THe ocean can definitely be scary with just how powerful it is. I remember when we took a family vacation to Hawaii. We headed towards North Shore and there was a beach along the way with some big waves (like 10-20 foot) that broke probably 100 feet from the beach and the water would rush up the beach and back down (and only be like a foot deep). Brother and I were just playing around (i was like 12 brother 16) maybe 20 feet into the water. It was fun cause the water would rush at you so fast and then in the next instant it was being sucked back into the ocean for the next wave. I mean it was powerful even for only being one foot deep. Well a bigger than normal wave or something cam and the water ended up being more like 2 feet deep instead of the one. When it start being sucked back out it took my legs from be and planted me on my ass and then dragged me along the sand a good 20 feet. Scariest feeling cause i was totally helpless. Feet dug in and hands and still being dragged. Once i stopped though luckily it was easy to just stand up and run out. but if i hadnt stopped id be gone for sure.

Ever since then i keep to calm beaches and lakes. Rivers only when its calm. No whitewater or big waves for me anymore!
