If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
That CV swap was a BITCH!

Gave up trying to take pictures, but I eventually got it out after getting creative with the prybar. Then spent another hour trying to seat the new one and pound it in without fubar'ing the splines.

Those C-clips must've been forged in the fiery vagina of Satan's mother herself...I swear to god...

It's over now, time for a beer.

I happen to have a spare pair of V6 calipers and rotors. Found some brackets that sound like they will work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/290413682610?item=290413682610&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT&vxp=mtr

Is there any reason not to use them for a disk brake conversion on the rear axle? I know I'm going to need to do some proportioning work, but other than that it should work? :notsure:

On another note, I finally mounted a VIAIR compressor. Just need to plum the electrical and air houses.

What are you using for air line? I recently added a remote quick-connect for my compressor, used Aeroquip DOT Air Brake line/compression fittings. Pretty slick stuff..

I read somewhere on here awhile back that rear disc conversion for those that have tried it has been almost a complete clusterf*ck. that being said, I have thought about doing a rear disc swap on my truck. I only ask for one thing, and that is a write up with pics if you do the swap, especially on the proportioning part.

I don't want to shit on your idea Bobert, but what's wrong with the stock setup?

Dunno.. I guess I'm just really apprehensive to start messing with the stock braking system on any vehicle; plus - I've done just fine with the drums for 140,000 miles.

It'd just really suck to tear into it and find that it's going to be a lot more time and money than what it's worth.

That's what I'm planning on using, just have to find somewhere that sells it.

The biggest issue that screws people up is the ABS system, but mine has been disabled for a couple years now.

I don't know, just always liked the thought of disk brakes better and kicking around ideas now that I have some extra parts laying around.

Yep, I just need to get my butt over there. The VIAIR kit has most of the pieces I need already. I think I only need a couple more pieces.

i didn't read much into rear disc conversions, so I don't remember about first gens or second.

disc brakes are easier to work on than drums. they are also more effective than drums. for me, I pull trailers often enough with my truck that I would rather have better braking ability at all 4 wheels. one of my trailers has brakes, and the other one doesn't. the one without brakes has certainly had more than its share of weight. at one point, i put 2 yards of top soil in the trailer and another yard in my truck. that was a heavy load going up a steep hill, then down the other side right out of the place i got it at. I was wanting a heavier duty truck and trailer at that point, but I didn't have it.

Yep, they are definitely beneficial for pulling. Its looking like I'll be pulling my '85, whenever that gets finished , with my Tacoma so additional stopping power will be awesome. Definitely doing the Tundra brake upgrade when that happens.
