I guess this is a good place for this. If not, please move to correct place! Headed out this morning at 0800 from Arlington, an hour late, for 4 days camping and off roading in BBRSP and BBNP. Doing some sight seeing on the way so I'll post this with some cool stuff!
There was supposed to be 8 of us going but it dwindled down to just 4 and my buddy with a Heep insisted on taking his rig so instead of him and I riding solely I said I'd ride with him. His is a '15 Wrangler and my other 2 friends are in a '12 Taco Sport with ToyTec Boss 3" lift. Jeep is getting 9.1mpg probably due to the massive shit on the roof. Taco is getting about 15mpg. First gas stop at an Allsups 50 miles east of Abilene.

Went to BBNP last year, it was great. Chisos Basin in the evening when the sun was setting was completely magical.

This inspires me to take a week or two off from work and go to Big Bend / Palo Duro / drive around Texas.

Came to Terlingua to check some stuff out. Reception is non-existent except here, for the most part. If I get a better connection I'll post up some awesome pics. It's was 96* yesterday and we wheeled ALL day and into the night. Doing another all day wheeling trip tomorrow inside the park. Pics to come soon hopefully!

Cell service was terrible there, and if you don't know where the ONE gas station is (it's hard to miss) you're in trouble LOL.

It took over a minute to download that one pic so I'll have to post pics when I get better reception.

Had shitty reception the whole time so this thread worked out a little different than I planned! Last time I went out there I got reception sporadically but this time I got zero.
    Some rock.

The 27 mile dirt road, from 170, to get to the ranger station. Takes about an hour. Then it took us almost 2 more hours to get to camp!

On our way to Terlingua along 170 we stopped on the Rio Grande. This is not zoomed in & that's Mexico right there.
    IMG_1740.jpg
Vending machine in Terlingua @ a restaurant. . It offered a couple packs of smokes & some guitar strings. WTF?!?!
    IMG_1750.jpg
La Kiva bar & grill. Has a lot of history & a must see in Terlingua.

You can see how the earths shifted over billions of years in these rocks. Pretty damn cool.
    IMG_1777.jpg
There were piles of scat outside this Magnesium mine/cave we walked up to. We were going to go inside but it had a VERY strong odor of urine & had fresh urine right inside so we bailed.

Views from the cave looking down. There's a Tacoma down there a ways.

This Taco owner is a member here but doesn't remember his username & just reads the forums. He's been a close friend of mine for about 28 years.IMG_1801.jpg
Another pic from the cave looking out.
    IMG_1806.jpg
We saw ZERO vehicles on the trail our whole 4 days of trail riding until we were driving out to leave. Saw a Dodge & this Taco.
    IMG_1807.jpg
    Some sandstone rocks.
    IMG_1809.jpg
Airing up to leave on the border.
    IMG_1810.jpg
One last pic. That's the Rio (border) w/the weeds behind us being Mexico & the sand we're standing in being part of the State Park.
    IMG_1815.jpg

And that's our trip in a nutshell. This is my 2nd time down there & I've learned a few things.
Air truck AND trailer tires down as soon as you pull off the highway (170)
Jeeps aren't good for road trips
Jeeps aren't good for hauling even small trailers
170 is the 2nd most beautiful highway I've driven along ( and I've driven along quite a bit). Only beat by a small stretch in Wyoming.
A decent air compressor can save a decent amount of time
The 3 hour drive it takes to get from the highway (170) to our campsite becomes an ass whoopin'
    Take sunscreen
The "yellow" unmaintained 4WD high clearance vehicle trails take a loooooong time to complete & you WILL scratch the ever-living-shit out of your rig

It was another epic adventure w/some great guys in my home state that I love dearly. It's a long/hot/dry location but a must see for any true Texas lover. Feel free to ask any questions. I've spent a total of 9 days out there so I've figured quite a bit of it out.
Thanks for reading along and GOD BLESS TEXAS!!!!
