Anyone on here from the Outer Banks area? I live in Kill Devil Hills and have been wondering if any members are near by. I know a lot of members visit this area.

I'm up in Virginia, but I'd be down for like a weekend-long meet. Used to go down there all the time with my Tundra group.

I've been tossing around the idea of trying to weasel my way out of working the 3rd and going down that weekend. But then again, I'm not sure if I want to deal with the traffic/crowds. If I did, I'd probably be staying at the KOA in Rodanthe if there was a spot.

My family stays at the Camp Hatteras in Rodanthe. We always say we would try the KOA but we have yet to have a bad time at CH.

Back before hurricane Irene, when the KOA was just a basic campground without those "deluxe" cabins on stilts, and the monstrosity that is the front office/café/pool, we always called Camp Hatteras the "Fawn Lake" of campgrounds down there. The joke is that Fawn Lake a local VERY upscale community with million dollar plus homes, including one that coach/NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs owned (or maybe still does, not sure). Every time we passed by Camp Hatteras, there were tons of 100K diesel pushers set up and big 5th wheels with slide outs coming from everywhere. So we took our little 1987 Jayco pop up and hung out with the rednecks at the KOA next door.

I hear that! There are definitely some campers worth some serious $$$ in there. My parents is not a 5th wheel but has dual slides. I'll be the first to admit we are "glampers" but it's cheaper than renting a house for the week down there.

Lol. Don't get me wrong, I have a 32" flat screen that lives in the pop up.

But I usually go down to fish. So I try to stay away from it during tourist season. Spring/late fall is when I usually end up down there. I stayed down there 9 nights last fall and it was less than $600. Definitely cheaper than a house.

It's definitely quiet, more peaceful than the beach, almost feels like a different place. Just stay away the fist Saturday in June and July 4th, you'll be in traffic for a while.
