By the way, I saw the blue Taco you were talking about. Saw it on the way out, and then remembered seeing it on the way in. Blue first gen, super jacked up with monster truck wheels. Kinda looked like it was even decorated with Christmas lights or something like that?!?!?!

I’ve lived here my whole life and never have been. I’ve never heard anything bad about it other than it being a tad above average on price, which I can deal with.

It’s an old mud truck, it’s been sitting in that yard for years now. They do light it up every year around Christmas, guess the lights stay up year round lol.

Wonder how much it would take to convince them to let it go? God my wife would kill me if I sold the camaro and bought that or something like it but it's inevitable

IDk I didn't think the prices were bad really and the food was really good. They make a pretty good Margarita also so I hear my daughter had one. We don't eat out much when we're there but I'll eat there

Just go to Dennis Anderson’s place and get one of his trucks, might have to sell the house for that one though.

My girlfriend says she’s gunna take me one day. My favorite place has always been chili peppers.

So I haven't been down to the Outer Banks in 20 years and I'm taking my family there in August. From just talking to the real estate people a lot has changed to say the least. I've been hearing horror stories about traffic. If I'm arriving on Sunday (8/12) is there a good way to time my arrival to avoid gridlock?
    Any help would be, helpful!

Sunday’s, traffic isn’t as bad usually. Keep in mind, check in at most houses is 4pm so that’s when the majority of the traffic gets bad. If you’re staying up in southern shores, duck or corolla you have no choice but to sit in traffic. If you’re staying kitty hawk south, you’ll still have traffic but it’s normally not bumper to bumper the whole way. Only way to beat traffic is to be here early but then you have to have something to do before check in and inevitably hit traffic anyway. I live in Manteo and don’t leave the island on the weekends unless it’s early before everyone wakes up or late after everyone’s left the restaurants to go to their house for the night.

Thanks, that's kind of what I figured and why I booked for a Sunday arrival. We're staying in Rodanthe and will be coming from DC. We'll most likely just take our time and enjoy the views.

You should be fine then. Get through kitty hawk and kill devil hills and the rest is cake. Once you get into nags head towards south 12, you’re good. May not be able to go 55-60 the whole way but you should be able to do 45-50 at least.

My kids have seen the mountains but this is their first ocean adventure, we're all very excited. My daughter wants to be a marine biologist which is awesome but ambitious for a seven year old. A million years ago when I went to ODU I used to go down there and surf (albeit poorly). After that I was in the Navy and found myself stationed in Norfolk and we would go down there and shore fish a lot. I remember camping in Frisco Woods and I think Hatteras SP. My wife loves fresh seafood so she's really jazzed to go. We're meeting a friend from the Navy and his family down there, it should be a good week! It's 1000 miles from here, I'll be ready for a cold beverage by the time we get the the house.

Crap and I thought I had a little drive. There is also an aquarium over in Manteo you can take your daughter to. You may also want to take her to Janette's pier. It was bought and rebuilt by the National Oceanic Society or something like that. It's one of the only concrete piers and they have a couple of aquariums inside showinfg some of the marine life that lives around piers. Also some other educational marine stuff

I was just around Waves for 2 weeks and was surprised how few Tacomas, or Toyota trucks in general, I saw.

This year we split the trip into 2 parts on the way down, stayed in Elizabeth city Saturday night then took our time driving down the banks with a stop at the aquarium in manteo. That way less pressure to make the ferry to OI.
    Will do this again :)
