That’s what I’m looking for! Nice drum man! Haven’t caught one that big yet.

That's what I'm talking about! I'll be looking for them on Ocracoke the last week of September. If they run later I'll just have to make a weekend trip.

If anyone is going to be down on the outer banks the last weekend of sept into the first of October and know what they’re doing surf fishing wise I’d love to learn something. Did it last year for the first time and loved it and now I’m hooked. Help a brother out!

Staying with the parents and fam around kill devil hills. Wanting to go closer to the point too.

There have been a few large ones caught from the sand recently around the inlets, and at least one big one from a pier that I’m aware of. We start picking them off normally in September. But this year they’ve been caught all year from boats near the inlets.

I could maybe swing down one weekend. Took the last week off in October to fish but I’m only an hour from the point and could probably fish a night or two.

Any plans to get a 4x4 pass for the beach? Drum fishing at Oregon inlet has been hot recently and should be on fire in early October. You can drive on at ramp 4 at the campground. I’ll be in Hatteras for 2 weeks starting the 14th. Report back if you catch! Good luck.

I get the yearly pass every year. It'll be the first year for my taco. Excited to get her in the sand. The OI ramp was where I went from ages 0-17. Every year since I've been heading further and further south. Anything north of Pea Island just pisses me off and makes me miss the way things used to be.

Yep. My first trip to Hatteras was late 90’s. I see the pics of the old days and I’m so sorry I missed it when it looked like that. I never wanted to stay north of OI and never have except when we got evacuated one time. Tacomas love sand btw. Post #'s 418 & 419 - Good to hear you folks care so much about the OBX - its truly a special place.

As a kid, I remember an uncle's stories about carrying lumber from Tarboro to Nags Head to build a cabin for another family member back in the thirties. It was only a little over a hundred miles but they'd sometimes spend the first night camped at the ferry landing on the west side of the Alligator River. I also recall visiting Ocracoke in the fifties and it seemed we drove half the way and rode on ferries the other half.

The northern end still has some attraction for us - Lost Colony, Fort Raleigh, Jockey's Ridge, Wright Brothers, Alligator River NWR etc. but I'd agree from Buxton south is best for kicking back. The NPS campground at Frisco is our go to for a weekend beach trip.

We're hoping to put a trip together for Portsmouth Island sometime in mid-late September. Cape Lookout NS should be on the bucket list for anyone wanting to experience true beach camping.

You should come down the first week! @Comatose, myself, and our little fishing team is competing in the Little Hatteras tourney the weekend after labor day.

Sorry for all losing their vacation week, but better safe than sorry. This one could be a tricky one for Hatteras Island. A few miles one way or the other could make a big difference. Hopefully the center stays off the coast and it it picks up speed and moves off quick. Good luck to everyone in the path of the storm. See you in about 10 days God willing.

We’ve been preparing non stop for this storm in manteo. Friends/family in buxton have said the water has almost been sucked out of the sound. We’re expecting some pretty serious flooding. A lot of old timers have been saying this could be one of the worst the obx has seen in a long time.

Bout as ready as we can be. This waiting is the worst part to me. Plenty of water and food as well as a generator so we’re ready for the long haul.
