We're a few miles outside Tarboro off US64 and the heavy rains are just moving in now. DrummyTaco, if there's anything we can do to help out after the storm passes, just let us know. Its kinda hard to figure out exactly how hard you folks are being hit with all the sensationalism by the media. Why in hell do they have to stand in ankle deep water to give a report is beyond me.

Cause that’s how they make their money, and also why cantori is “banned” from this area. Woke up about an hour ago, so far everything is fine. I’d be more worried about the areas between buxton and cape lookout. We still have 5-8hrs before the hard stuff is on us. If/when I’m able to, I’ll be heading to buxton to help out family/friends with my generator and some food/water.

Honestly was looking forward to a decent storm. Been needing a good excuse to clean the property up

But if you’re that close, come down and fish some time. I have off a week starting oct 23 (I think) got a couple buddies off here coming down to fish a tournament, plan on spending several nights on the beach, fishing and cookin on the grill. They’ll have a house in Avon and I think we plan on pulling the camper down as well.

Good to hear you've made it this far with no problems and hope it stays that way. We've had about 3.5" of rain so far with a few limbs down but haven't lost power.

Post #430 - Thanks for the offer. A cane pole and cork are about the upper limits of my fishing skills but we have a least one more coastal trip planned for the Fall and I'll look you up if the timing works out.

Hope you guys make it out unscathed. I love the Outer Banks. Wife and I went out there for an anniversary years ago and I’ve been wanting to come back. Driving on the beach was so nice (I was in a Jeep at the time). Been wanting to take my Tacoma out there

Ocracoke is currently dealing with the worst flooding they’ve seen in a long time. We’ve lost contact with family/friends in hatteras and a friend in Frisco is missing the back wall in his house. it’s starting to deteriorate very quickly here in manteo.

I feel like this storm teased us a little and is now showing it’s real strength. As soon as I’m able I’ll be heading to hatteras to help out.

Was just about to ask for an update. Looks like you're right in the thick of it now. Winds a major issue, or mostly surge?

Down south, yea. Here we have roughly 2-3” of standing water due to rain. Sound has receded some, but not as much as the areas to our south. After staying through Irene, this is a very similar monster.

Appreciate the local condition updates. We know several folks in the Frisco area and my son in law's family has a sound side home near the ferry landing in Hatteras so it helps to get some non-news firsthand info.

My wife was a RN with the state for several years before retirement and was always called in to man a shelter under these conditions. I really appreciate the emergency crews but am darned glad its no longer us.

Last I heard pretty much everything south of Avon right now either is or was under water. The coast guard are getting the helicopters ready to get people out of ocracoke.

As of now in manteo, there are several large trees down and the water is being sucked out so I’m anticipating flooding here. Haven’t had power for a few hours now due to the power poles in nags head (near whalebone for those that know the area) being down. I’m going to assume we’ll be off the grid for several days and possibly a week or longer for areas south of Oregon inlet.

Heard they’re just now letting people down on Hatteras island but nothing past that headed to Ocracoke. Hope you fellas down there escaped any property damages.

Looks like people have started to catch some pretty nice drum down there after this hurricane too.

Almost 15mil in damages, including property, roads, power ect.. the school itself was said to have just over 5mil in damages. I was down there Sunday and Monday delivering supplies and helping with clean up, it’s not pretty.

Coming down tomorrow for the week. Was supposed to stay in Hatteras, but the house was flooded, so we changed up the S. Nags Head. Going to be fishing down by the inlet and hope to get down to the point at least one day maybe two. Mild inconvenience compared to what so many folks down there are dealing with. It will take time, but islanders are tough people who have been through this before. Hopefully this new storm will turn quickly out to sea.

Was at the south side of the inlet last night, it was brutal, but if you’re willing to make the walk, there’s fish to be caught.

What’s everyone using for their knots from the main line to their leader? I just learned to tie the spider hitch to the no name knot. Pretty easy. Using 20lb mono to 50 lb mono leader.

Looks like it was just about big enough to keep though, good dinner.

My 8 was rolling very quickly the other night, refused to use 10 or 12.

I just double my main line and tie a no name with a lock knot with the shock. Only one knot instead of two. Lots of guys use the spider hitch, surgeons loop or bimini and then a no name. I’ve never seen an issue for it as it puts two weak spots in your line. They all work though, just figure out what your comfortable with and go with it.

I use 16 to 40, I tend to get more backlashes with 50
