Anybody making a trip this fall for some fishing?

Looks like I'll be down in Hatteras Village at the end of October.

Headed to the 4x4 beaches mid October for our vacation, been here lots before with my Rav4, this will be the first time in a "real" 4x4, bringing the wifeys 4R. Whats good fishing? Never surf fished before, but interested in giving it a try.

Mid October should be a good time for Puppy Drum. Last year around that time we landed upwards of 50 bluefish in one day, a few swelling toad, and even a surprise grey trout from the surf.

I have a trip planned for the end of October and we are hoping to target some Puppies.

I guess that depends what town your in. TWs in the KittyHawk/Nags head is a good one stop shop. As you go south on 12 toward Hatteras there a few mom-and pop stores that sell bait and tackle.

Fresh bunker or mullet is always good to have. You can also dig for sand fleas or other smaller crabs. I carry some of the artificial Fish Bites with me just in case I run out of fresh bait or want to switch it up.

We'll cross over to the OBX on the rt 158 bridge then head north on rt12 all the way to the Virginia border north of Corolla.

There will be three places on your way there, never stepped foot in them though since I buy/catch bait else where. There Bobs Bait and tackle just before the Wings in Duck, Sharkeys bait and tackle across from Sunset bar going out of Duck and a TW's (I believe) by the Food Lion in Corolla. Should be plenty of mullet in October if they haven't been scooped up by the drum fisherman first.

You can expect big drum and lots of sharks in Corova, best time there for those two is mid/late September and early October at night up there.

We're bringing the wife's 4runner, the Taco is staying home this go round. Should be nice to have a true 4x4 for the first time on the beach instead of the Rav4. Please don't take that as a knock on the Rav4, that little SUV went any-fucking-where I pointed it!
