Wow! Awesome build and write-up! Love the detail to have cutting board and lift section for table.

One of the coolest home-made drawer sets I have seen. Subbing for a future project :).

Great job! This has been awesome to watch the progress. This really makes me want a drawer system.

Well just got home after 2400 Miles on and off road, and the drawer build was solid. The only change I would make is to build it even lighter with 80/20 extruded aluminum but it would have cost 2-3 times as much. Oh and add 2 little hooks for stove tools and a garbage bag. :)

The trip with my son was amazing and I posted a trip report over at Overland Bound under Epic Whistler BC Trip. This last photo is my son and I by Lost Lake. The build was satisfying and very functional to make our trip even better, feeling good about it.

Very nicely done! I always build a platform/ drawers in my truck so I can sleep in the bed on the road and store all of my hunting and dog gear but I've never made one even close to as nice as you've done here.

On a side note, what model Giant do you ride. I have a Trance X29 that I love.

It’s a 2018 Trance 2, thing is a beast. I pushed it so hard at whistler and it just took the beating even though it’s not a downhill bike. Only close up I have of it 1F9B340A-7C6B-4ACB-9CEA-AD374F3B8A62.jpg

Sorry to hear about the stolen bike. In Whistler I kept locking our bikes up. There were many more expensive bikes there but I knew it was just SUCK if something happened.

Honestly the Yakima Skyrise wasn’t my first choice, but I got it at REI and it was a garage sale return which I talked them into selling for $300. Happened to walk in right after it was returned and brand new it’s $1500. It was missing the rainfly hoops which Yakima just gave me for free! It’s the medium size and I really like it. 35mph winds in the Mojave desert and it was fine, it’s light, the nylon tent won’t mildew like poly canvas and it doesn’t leak under the rainfly. It’s a 3 seasons tent, but I have a zero degree sleeping bag. For the price and weight, I would say it meets 80% of peoples needs unless you are a hardcore winter camper. With that said my first night in it was snow camping :)

I’m thinking about adding a DIY bed slide next to my drawer. I would use the same heavy duty drawer slides that I did for my drawer. As I need as much vertical space as possible under my cover I’m thinking of using a 1/2” board as the bottom and laying the drawer slides right on the bed of the truck. If I anchor down the back it won’t lean out. Think the sliders would distort with just a board between them?

Looking at this photo from Lake Tahoe, I’d put the cooler on the end of the slide, and all 5’ of the bed slide would come out and I could reach all of my gear that’s normally under the tonneau without crawling in to grab gear in the back.

I stopped for a quick lunch on the trail-BF554041-3933-4E2F-AEC5-571CD9476295.jpg

If you're saying you want to mount the slides in a flat orientation as opposed to vertical, I would think the slides would snap in 2 the first time you pulled it out.
