Same happens on KDMAX, Nexus and I had it even on the stock. This is not exclusive to a tune.

You didn't mention which OTT tune...7.0 or 8.0 so I will expect it's the 8.0.

I started with the 7.0 on March 23* (correction: May 23) and then the update 8.0 two weeks later...Med/Mild.

I noticed better acceleration and gas mileage. I also noticed better performance while using the TSS.

I had my 15K ToyotaCare this past Tuesday and I was concerned they might detect a change in the ECU.

No mention of any abnormalities from the Tech--OTT Tuner said it wouldn't be an issue.

I'll be looking for your test report!

It hasn’t done it on my truck the entire time I’ve driven in the mountains.

Yes 8.0- I had read "somewhere" that OTT doesn't really name their updates, so I didn't include that. I suppose it is helpful to know the version though, so you can find out if there have been any changes, significant or otherwise.

Took our first camping trip and even with a pop up, going up a hill would shift up and down and up and down over and over again. I will be getting this once Yotatuning comes to Pittsburgh again!

Just wanted to provide an update. Thanks to all those that chimed in. I did some more troubleshooting and noticed it only downshifts if I tap the brakes. If I just let it coast, it stays in 5/6. I think I just noticed the downshift to 3rd because after getting 5.29 gears, the RPMs go to about 3500. With stock gears, it probably also downshifted but RPMS probably remained under 3K.

Meant to chime in when you first posted this but forgot: Toyota's factory tuning, OVTune, and now KDMaxx have all behaved like this in this situation on my 2020. So I'd say there's nothing inherently wrong with your truck.

Strangely enough, it seems to only engine brake when I don't really need it to and never does it when I do need it to. Ultimately, if it downshifts going down a hill when I don't need it to, I just give it some gas until it shifts back up. Otherwise, when I need to actually utilize engine braking, like when I'm towing my trailer, I just shift it where I need it in "select" shifting or whatever "S5/S4/etc" stands for.

I've been having the same issue, coming from stock. I am getting the same driveability issues with my 2022 6MT. It is especially bad with the AC running.

I believe it is the mild throttle, which I also mistakenly requested. I'm going to get this adjusted this coming weekend.

@JustDSM - can you provide some guidance on the MT throttle options and which ones to select/avoid?

More great things to say about YotaTune. David adjusted my throttle from mild to spicy which resolved my driveability issues. No more bogging and bucking with the AC running!

I chose level 2 throttle response with level 3 optional by pressing the ECT button. I'm happy my tuner told me about this.
I'm OTT as if today by Luke at HighCountryTuning. I'm very happy with this outcome.

I would advise to start with spicy and see how you like it so you can either go up to super spicy or drop to medium. Spicy is a great starting point for manual trucks.

It is a common misconception that only heavily modified vehicles can benefit from a tune. Not true. There are a wide variety of options to fit your specific vehicle and driving style.

The owner of this vehicle was looking to fix the constant gear hunting, laggy throttle, hard shifting, and underpowered feel of his mostly stock 2022 Tacoma. The Overland Torque Tune fixed all of that and more! Now, he is able to enjoy a responsive vehicle that drives the way he wants it to!

I think it's more of a "feature" of the 5.29s. I've noticed my truck since getting 5.29s (I'm on 34's) likes to downshift a little more frequently.
