Not sure if this has been answered, but do you need to run a specific octane before/after the tune? I usually run 89.

    87 and above is recommended.

How about for states at average higher evelation like in Utah and western Colorado where the low grade is 85? I keep reading mixed info on “it’s fine, lower atmospheric pressure will let 85 run fine” and then I read “OMG GONNA BLOW UP”…

Note: I always run 91+ in my supercharged Tacoma, but the little RAV4 engine I’m not sure it matters between 85 and 87.

Was there any updates to the tune in order to get CARB certified?

Just wondering if I need to see my tuner and/or need to get that CARB sticker

You can run 85 at elevation it’s not “going to blow up”, but you are leaving some power and efficiency on the table at areas other than WOT. I still (personally) recommend 87+.

For the specific gains illustrated in the tests we’ve published, yes. However, SEMA independently tested our calibration on CA 87 and achieved similar delta. I do not have the chart handy at the moment (will attach to this post later) as I’m mobile and not at the PC.

If you were tuned on OTT after 1/1/2024 on the OTT-CE you are eligible for the free CARB update/sticker.

If you were tuned before that, there is a file update that needs to be flashed and your info recorded so we can issue you the CARB cert/sticker.

See your tuner or email info@overlandtailor.com to coordinate for the update.

I didn't receive a carb legal sticker from my tuner. I was tuned in March of 2024. How would I go about this?

We didn’t have the EO at that time. You’re on the calibration that was awarded the EO, so you just need to reach out to your tuner for the credentials/sticker.

I don’t if somebody asked. Heard about tune revently. How will this tune work with 2023 TRD OffRoad 6 speed manual transmission, 3.5L V6? Only for automatic?

So I had been tuned but put the truck back to stock a couple months ago. If this goes to a buyer in California, they will need to have it tested - will it still potentially fail due to the check number issue, or has that been straightened out? I've gotten a bit lost on if it was corrected, or if the check number fix was CARB approval allowing the tune to pass emissions..

Depends on which "stock" file was used to flash the truck back to stock. We have the "true stock" files which do not have the encryption and the CVN reports back as orignal.

Our OTT-CE file issued CARB-EO D-883 will come with a letter from CARB and the sticker alerting the technician that a calibration update is installed but has been awarded an EO.

How does one find out how stock their stock files are? Would they need to come from you or would they be in the VF Tuner software updates or what not?

Too many variables, there’s been a number of software updates. I can send you the file that is verified good to go with you being a client of ours.

The only other way to verify would be to check CVN. I don’t have the 04C30 stock CVN handy so the safest way to know for certain if your truck has the true stock file is to flash a file known to be “true stock”.

That would be great. I have no intention of trying to hide that I had tuned the truck but I really, really don't want to cause problems for people down the road (especially if we wind up trading it in).

And once that is squared away...we'll probably be talking about my '12.. :spending:

    Thanks!

Another qustion. I get aftermarket catback installed in my Tacoma exhaust, the rest of it is OEM, can it be still be tuned? Local tuner told me he has to double check, and let me know.

Yes, we can tune your truck. There’s no issues running a cat-back exhaust.
