That's understandable of course. The kit from @OVTune is perfect for added boost to the stock system, but how awesome would it be to utilize that system plus some additional parts to bump those HP/TQ numbers up.

Total Chaos +3.5” long travel, 2.5” kings all the way around, bed cage with 16" king 2.5” triple external bypasses, McNeil fiberglass, C4 Front, WarFab Rear, Magnuson Super Charger, 5.29 ECGS Core Swap
Can't wait to see the overall numbers, regardless of S/C or T/C, definitely jumping at the opportunity to boost this engine.

Adding more mods sounds awesome but where do you draw the line? I ran into a similar problem tuning/mod'ing my BMW n54 (I6 TT) which took a stock 300 HP/300 TQ engine up to 410 WHP/450 TQ at 21 psi but eventually blew a head gasket and then cracked the block. As you modify stock parts there is always another stock part that becomes the weak link in the system.

Just adding another 100+ WHP/100+ ft lbs in the low end RPM's is going to make this truck SO much fun to drive without stressing the other stock components & dramatically reducing reliability. Won't necessarily be drag racing at stop lights any more, those days are past. However, i will be slinging lots more mud, sand & snow around with this new found low end power! :mudding:

There's a line drawn by those who are wanting to draw a line, some people want everything they can get for power, some are on limits and just want pure drivability. As for me, I want pure drivability and the occasional making a joke of a fart can upgraded 4door focus.

I’m curious how the drivetrain responds to the added HP/TQ.

If you’re asking about reliability, I think Mat says it’s good to near 500HP based on its use in other vehicles.

My guess is the engine tranny combo is good for 300k stock. Add a moderate boost and perhaps 200-250k? But that’s just a guess based on the weather outside at the moment.

I keep my Toyota’s for 200k on average. I don’t abuse them but certainly use them to their ability. I plan on adding the SC in a year or two when we acquire a trailer.

Realistically, reliability all comes down to component quality, engine tuning, maintenance.
The stock engine as built by Toyota is extremely robust. forged crank, forged rods (not sintered), etc. Built on the same 2GR platform that has already done 400+HP without breaking a sweat in Lotuses / lexuses. And the Lotus as the 2GR-FE, the weakest 2GR (out of FE, FSE, FKS)
Change your oil regularly (5k miles), warm the engine up before beating on it, and use 91+ and it should last a very long time.

We put our R&D truck through a serious beating to test stuff. All sorts of crazy tests, 4x4, 4x4 low, doing 0-60 pulls in 4x4, off roading, smashing the pedal on/off 10 times in a minute. The craziest scenarios you can think of we do...because our 1.05 development thread has proven that you guys do some weird stuff in your trucks lol. Like even the odd scenario of driving normally but flooring it *right* as the transmission shifts, only for a split second. Why do people do that? No idea but we test that...

I even made a tune up to 7500 rpm because I wanted to see what the engine does up there.

When will these be available for purchase?

And what’s the chance of remote tuning for someone who buys your tuning platform but wants to build their own turbo kit?

The problem MIGHT come when the drive train is "bound" and under full power. Tire/wheels locked between rocks maybe. As long as all the components can move, it would seem all may be well. Or maybe pulling a 4500 pound trailer on a 8% grade. At 5mph, apply full skinny.

So true! My other car is a 570rwhp N54. It has taken quite a bit money to make big reliable power.

I would love another 100+ ft lbs from my tacoma. I was honestly pretty shocked when I bought my 2019 Tacoma in December that no one already offered a bolt on forced induction solution for the 3.5 yet. Big opportunity loss IMO, as I am sure there would be more buyers early on vs waiting till the platform is 4-5 years old with so many people changing vehicles every 2-3 years

That would be cool, but I doubt it since it would eat away at sales of his new products. At least not any time soon.

I think the issue was the software, not hardware. Bolting a super/turbo up doesn’t take much time. It’s all pretty much the same layout. It was the tuning which is why Matt is the taco wizard.

Are you going to be using a manual boost controller or have you found a way for the ECU to control boost?
