I believe that’s the goal for the base kits at 6psi. The twins do outperform the SC at the same PSI.

So this super charger...how loud is it? I’ll be honest. The power part is nice, but I’ve always wanted something with a supercharger just for the sound.

I’ve had a few build turbo cars, and while nice, I’d like to try the supercharger route. However if it’s silent then I might do the turbo direction instead.

Ha yep! Years ago I had a Jeep with a Chevy 350 that I swapped in a straight cut gear timing set to try to get that same whine.

Let’s just say the first rock crawling comp I went to people could hear it whenever I fired it up. Even if I was a hill over. Sure was cool though. I’ve seen enough top gear/grand tour episodes that I know I need super charger whine in my life.

You’re gonna need some more cheese because there won’t be any whine. The Rotrax is a centrifugal blower. If anything it would have a spool sound like a turbo. The top mount superchargers like Magnuson/TRD etc are the root/screw style which will get you that sound. This is my unprofessional opinion lol

Any video I’ve watched, they are pretty silent... doesn’t sound like a turbo and doesn’t wine like a screw supercharger. Can hear the blowoff a little if anything?

Now that pricing has been announced on the SC kits, that seals the deal for me, TT it is! I prefer the additional low end that these small turbos will provide by spooling up around 2k. More power under the curve, even if peak power is similar.

If the SC was $1500 cheaper than the TT, I’d likely go that route, but with TT being $100 less, it’s a no brainer for me.

Since it seems that you are one of the two people to win the OV lottery to receive the test kit supercharger how has it been so far, or have you not put your truck back together yet? I am looking forward to your write up as I am leaning toward the supercharger for my truck. Hopefully, Mat will give you permission soon to release your observations about the S/C.

Not going to get the traditional "whine" with this centrifugal SC kit which is more like a turbo set up that is belt driven. The roots or twin screw SC's make the whine sound you are looking for.

Supercharger has instant power, torque, so for 4x4 or crawling is better possible.

Turbo needs to spoil up before power comes on.

Turbo has more potential for more power, more boost more efficient. But more dangerous
too because you can add ALOT of boost easily and blow up the motor with too much boost or incorrect tune. Ping,

There will probably be a difference in power bands at different rpms between the two types and
    the tune.

Turbo will probably have heat soaked issues because it’s exhaust feed even with Intercooler especially on hot days 90-100. Will have to see.

Supercharger probably less issue with heat,

Will be interesting to know what type boost the 3.5 motor is capable of handling because of its design.

Is the bottom end forged on the 3.5 motor? If not less boost, if so it can handle more boost.

Are the heads aluminum and block cast iron?

If so aluminum does not like heat and head gaskets pop from the aluminum heads getting warped from to much heat. Cast iron and aluminum cool at a different rate.

I think supercharger will be more reliable, less stressful, safer,

Turbo definitely more power but this motor was not designed for a turbo like ecoboost ford.
So don’t like the turbo heat and unknown out come of what this motor can handle above 6 or 7 pounds of boost without some testing and miles.
    my two pennies

    Things to think about

I 100% agree. No doubt that the TT wins in the added HP/TQ gains & "power under curve" once these snails spool up. I think for towing applications, especially on the highway and hills, the TT is going to be much superior. The SC kit offers a slight advantage with acceleration from a stop, but only for the first 2000 RPM's.

Since both kits are relatively the same price,

SC kit considerations: 1) simplicity of install/less complex system (less parts) & easy access for the DIY'er
    2) feeling of consistent, predictable (linear) power with acceleration, especially from low RPM's

TT kit considerations: 1) more usable HP/TQ once they spool up which will be great for highway speed/towing.
    2) Earlier post mentioned lack of LSD in the rear. Having a mechanical LSD would be better suited for TT set up instead of the electronic VSC system. Not sure how the sudden burst of boosted power would translate with off roading applications but better for desert running, less so for rock crawling.
    3) turbos create a lot of heat. More complex system that in theory has more potential for reliability concerns, especially if running with additional boost or in hot environments. Other members also brought up the "dunk" factor when hot turbos get submerged in cold water during water crossings. Don't have any experience/evidence to comment on this but it's a good point to bring up since many of us will be overlanding or trail running and may be in this situation.

All aside, the TT kit also has the "X" factor with its added efficiency and potential for more boost/power.

The centrifugal s/c setup will take longer to spool than a traditional roots or screws type that often give substantial low end torque / hp increases. Mat also mentioned we should be seeing full boost at about 2100rpm with the smaller K03 turbo setup, fwiw.

2gr-fks: Both the connecting rods and crankshaft are forged. The block and heads are also both aluminum.
