I know ceramic coated headers and manifolds have been around for a long time but I've always been a little skeptical of their effectiveness. I searched google scholar for academic papers on the subject and to my surprise, all I could find was research on coating the piston/combustion chamber. I skimmed several of the papers and it seems the focus is more on reducing NOx. Here is my search: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?...lation&btnG=&oq=ceramic+coating+turbo+insulat

I personally don't know much on it either, just a lot of diesel crowd runs it on their exhaust system.

You are correct. But even so, where I'm at with 80k I'd want at least a 13. Gear splitter is nice thru the hills

I think you misinterpreted my post. I was more so responding to the individual bashing on the 2gr.

This to OVT, is there a tune that can be used with the turbos on 87 octane fuel? In my area gas is over $5/gallon and 91 or 93 even higher.

I’m tempted to risk it for the TT biscuit.

Sadly, it isn't possible due to the high compression of the engine which doesn't allow the retarding of the timing as much.

That's the reason why I am still considering SC vs just buying a whole new truck(2021 3.5 Turbo Tundra) because after 5 years, the cost of buying the SC or turbos plus premium gas, will be about equal to the upgrade(which will run on 87 btw as most factory turbo vehicles do)

One of the thing I have to decide as well. Should I just wait and get the Tundra in 2021 or add a supercharger or turbos to my 18 Tacoma. I'm leaning towards waiting because I'll end up with a larger truck (to pull my TT) that will run on 87 and the fuel mileage has been reported to be 30mpg.

It’s 2 years away so a lot can change. I doubt half of the predictions of the new tundra will actually be true

for a reliable efficient work truck i think you answered your question. for a work truck there's only one answer unless you want to be living the custom vehicle lifestyle when you least want to be (like when you're hauling and DGAF about performance numbers). add warranty & mileage concerns...

Sad day for the V8. Toyota was one of the last hold-outs for NA engines.

All the V8s will be phased out of all Lexus and Toyota models, and this was the plan right from the first blueprint of the 2GR-FKS

Kinda wish Toyota offered the Lexus V8 on the 2021 Tundra. This are the specs on the LC500

    Horsepower: 471 hp
    Engine: 5.0 L V8
    MPG: 16 city / 25 highway
    Curb weight: 4,280 lbs
    Torque: 398 lb-ft

That would be almost perfect for the Tundra.

Tune it for 400-450HP and same for torque, maybe a small improvement for added MPGs, but even as is, this engine would offer a sizable mpg/power improvement if used on the current/next gen platform compared to the curent 5.7 V8.

Getting a little off topic but the new Tundra info will be out this fall. The Toyota dealer meeting happens in September and the specs will be released. The rumor is the engine will be the 3.5l twin turbo that's available in the Lexus and tune for a truck application. Also there will be a hybrid option available which will achieve a mpg of 30.
