true, and yet as my OV NA performance has increased with each iteration of the MT tune, i find myself able to use less throttle for more performance daily. much more fun, and 0.5-1mpg increase across the board. this may be more common with these trucks since most here are for functional power and not just hooning.

    @OVTune

Can we please get some sound clips of how the SC will sound when you release the info later this month?

    Would be great, thanks!

Increased mph with centrifugal SC is fairly common. Google it.

I think the idea here is that driving under the same conditions that were used to test city/highway for the EPA rating will show higher. As you've already pointed out, the FI give the ability to burn a lot more fuel. On the other hand, if you're not flooring it and trying to race every old women driving a Buick like some 16 year old then maybe we'll see some better gas mileage from this eco friendly mod.

While turbos can help MPGs are very limited engine speeds (otto cycle only) generally you will lose MPGs.

If you gain MPG with a GAS turbo - fun is not being had. It's just too tempting...........

When all is said and done, we know the people who get the FI will romp around to experience the thrill of having a truck with more agility getting up to highway speeds. Cause no one here exceeds the speed limit. :burnrubber: Once they settle down and drive like "normal" looking at most FI added cars/trucks the MPG will go up a bit. If you drive like you stole it your, MPG will plummet more than normal.

Also I do recommend that Matt doesn't promise MPG gains. That's the start of cancer when some users drive like race truck and complain left and right calling his product defective/trash when all of us at least have an idea of all the hurdles Matt has jumped through to even get to this point. Once I'm stationed back in the states you can add me to the FI Taco group for sure.

If you guys want MPG gains then forget about getting a SC/TT.

What he said x1,000. Don't buy FI with the intent of gaining MPG. If you happen to gain, great, but don't expect it.

Not necessarily true. The best you can hope for is same mpgs when driving light load.

It will really depend in the turbos used and tune but generally the exhausts pressure will create some pump lose, especially during the atkinson cycle.

During otto cycle, at a certain rpm, they can help scavenge the waisted combustion energy inherent in the otto cycle and help the engine breath better in the front end, but that is typically a very narrow rpm band.

Besides pump lose, a few other reasons why turbos are generally not the magic MPG bullet everyone thinks they are:

You generally want to run colder plugs. They wont perform well when driving at light loads as combustion will be less efficient but it will help prevent predetonation when boosting. Its recommended to go 1 step colder per 100 additional HP but that's a rule of thumb. Hopefully OVTune does the research to recomend proper plugs.

When under boost, you have to dump a lot if extra fuel that doesn't even get burned to help reduce combustion temps. Say goodbye to your MPGs (but you wont miss them).

Turbos introduce a lot of extra heat, even when not spooling. ICs help but all the extra piping tend to increase intake pump lose.

My truck went from 17-19 MPGs to about 13-15 when I added my turbo, mostly because of the colder plugs. Im not a heavy footed driver. I just swapped new plugs one step hotter as I think I went too cold the first set.

Yeah it would be if you use pedal commander on max and at 15 psi.

I’m interested to see if the TT setup can keep me in 6th just a little longer. My MPGs get killed when the truck is dipping down into 4th for every little hill. Even if the gas cost is similar due to the extra cost of 93 octane here in TX it’ll be nice to lose some of that downshifting.

We usually only have 91 octane. Rarely 93 octane. I assume you could run 93 octane for the couple times I can find it on the 91 octane tune.

I decided to go twin turbo so I told Mat to let another lucky Taco owner take my S/C kit.
I’m holding out for twins. Thinking about dual snorkels(on each side)One for each snail. :anonymous:
