    Lots of questions here.

Topic on conversation: lean fuel mixture, better fuel economy (no boost), higher NoX.

My understanding is that using direct injection helps with this. Leaner mixtures are possible without increasing NoX. I think knock is also reduced. How does this effect turbocharging? Are leaner mixtures possible with direct injection? Lastly, are the physical size of injectors used in direct injection somewhat standard between vehicles? Will we ever see a day where we can swap out these injectors?

The leaner the mixture the more likely things are to knock. Generally speaking lean mixture is hotter than a rich mixture. Running lean with a turbo is not good. Leaner mixtures are definitely possible with direct injection, it's all in how it's programed. There are a wide variety of injectors, size and style. I'd imagine there are already different injectors available for this engine.

That is all true but how does it differ with direct injection? My understanding (no references) is that things can be leaned out when using direct injection.

Doing so while under boost and coupled with high compression and you’ll likely burn a piston. Especially on a street car that has to operate under many different scenarios. I’m also going to assume that may will likely want to play it safe considering the tuning limitations that are presented with the lack of MAP sensor and high quality aftermarket sensors.

How many times do I need to say this. For the 3rd time now. I'm talking about direct injection here. How does direct injection compare?

Once in the proper thread, this is a kit that you bolt on and forget. This isn’t the place to learn about boost

I know that’s not going to be taken kindly but there so many frustrations in this thread because folks are asking things that really don’t apply. It is a KIT, everything is predetermined and must accept how it is. And no, you guys don’t have the right to even know what the parameters are EVEN ON YOUR TRUCK. Take it or leave it, you want to diy then DIY

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Yes, DI helps prevent predetonation as it allows fuel to be injected later in the cycle.

However, you run rich not necessarily to avoid predetonation but rather to keep temps down in the combustion chamber. While this helps predetonation, it also helps prevent general overheating, burning up pistons, valves, etc... I would not recommend running leaner just because of DI but TBH, I'm not 100% sure.

What I am sure is, if you want to run leaner, a water/meth injector will help. Depending on the kit (how much water you are injecting) you can even decrease AFR's all the way back down to 14.7 if you desire but make sure you don't run out of water or engine will *knock* *knock* BOOM

Yes.... yes, we are talking about DI over port injection, just like you asked... I am speaking from my past experience with Ford’s EcoBoost platform which utilizes both port injection and DI, with an ECU architecture that was designed to do this with forced induction from the get go. FYI, there is plenty of data specific to this available online. So you only need to say it once.. or go find your own answers?

Edit: in my case with the tuned EB from a reputable tuner out of Canada, AFR never exceeded 12.2 under WOT and Target was 11.9. This was pushing significantly more flow than stock and 28psi boost. Lean mixtures are always dicey when adding power. DI however will likely be leveraged to make more power under the same circumstances.

I don't know why I let my thoughts slip this morning. A few years ago I ordered a burger in Japan and requested the toppings be different than what was on the menu and told 'NO, it would change the flavor and that's not the flavor I'm selling' That blew my mind, really made me reconsider the roles of sellers and consumers and who's entitled to what.

I thought those were right at the motor, he posted earlier that the Y right at the carrier bearing was the bottleneck. That being said, I’m not sure if he’s testing the turbo with or without his dump tubes installed.
