I appreciate the concern but I am well aware of what may happen and have taken precautionary steps.

Let's get the thread back on track!

Call me a noob and not contributing anything to this thread, but unlike some of the keyboard cowboys on here (and other forums I’ve been on) - I have first hand experience boosting cars that weren’t originally designed to be boosted. I made points earlier that are valid, and if a reasonable person took a long hard look at what I’m trying to say, it would make sense.

The OP has done a TON of work building a business on tuning these engines and putting R&D into this turbo endeavor. I have nothing but respect and a little bit of jealousy. I’d love to be able to do this type of thing full time, but I’m too far into a career to change things up now.

Tuning is an art, and will make or break a FI build. The OP has mastered these engines, and is perfecting the tunes on these trucks. Like he mentioned, typical tuners aren’t messing with these engines and a local tuner isn’t going to know where to start.

As long as the OP has the ability to remote tune, provide data logging abilities with the kits, and provide the customer support needed to tweak each individual set up - I’d say he’s hit this out of the park and wish him the best of luck.

He has the ability to do custom remote tuning. However, trying to schedule time for all of the custom tuning will be very difficult

Not when there’s only 4 available kits lol

he could just roll out small batches initially. Say 10-20 a month.

A few months ago I had a Audi Q7 with a 2.0T. the turbo lag drove me crazy while trying to go slow over rocks in some mild off-road situations. It was a constant jump between bogging down or spinning all 4 tires. You may have said it already, but when is the power coming on with the testing so far?

Mat, any thoughts on my post about possibly passing emissions without the Cats near the engine for someone not under the tight scrutiny of California.

Full boost is under 2000 rpm. Peak torque is TBD, I expect it to be around 2800-3200 rpm.

It's quite controllable though, although my truck has larger mud tires so that could be a factor. The one thing, which I have tested already, is tuning of the torque converter makes a huge difference in how the truck responds and accelerates.
Fully unlocked the truck moves smoothly, accelerates strong, but the torque converter being unlocked is obvious. The truck doesn't really "wake" up in movement until about 2500 rpm.

Now the opposite. Fully locked. RPM stays very, very low. (Cruising around I rarely saw above 2500 rpm in any gear). Boost comes strong and fast. Moves the truck pretty effortlessly, but also controllable.
The con to that is, with the TC fully locked mpg is no good in the city.

One thing for certain is, the turbos on the truck completely change the dynamic of how it responds, shifts, and behaves.

With TC lock up it's possible to drive almost entirely under 2000 rpm, by generating around 2-3psi.

How quickly boost can be generated with this setup is exactly what the goal was with this from the beginning.

I do plan to make a catted version, will it pass emissions, likely. CARB approved? Unlikey.

Base kit tuning (engine side) is pretty much done. Bigger turbos, injectors, and fuel pump go on Sunday (assuming time is available).

If we can't get the base Garrett's in a timely manner we may have to offer the base kits with the Borg Warner versions.
They aren't worse in performance, but they do say "FoMoCo" on them.

Unlikely thought, Garrett is expecting to have many ready in January.

The TRD sport has the same set up. Good to know it will work with dual batteries!

Correction, TRD Sport models still has the ABS there. It is TRD OffRoad and TRD Pro that do not have ABS as they have Crawl Control instead.

Can you imagine the hundreds of thousands of miles this engine would last if you spent all your time under 2k rpm?

It depends. And is load dependent.

2-3 psi with forged internals? Seems like a bulletproof combo to me

    Not what I am saying.

Say someone runs a hill every day at 1200 rpm in 3rd after just starting the engine. 2500-3000 RPM isn't necessarily hard on a modern engine.
