OVT: What is the estimated timetable for a MT TT kit release? Sounds like you are releasing the AT version first, correct?

Keep in mind that's only for the powermax. The base kit will have a different IC. From what I've gathered from pics anyway.

The two intercoolers are pretty similar in size but either one can be used with the base kit. There are a few of us who have already stated that we'd go for the bigger intercooler for the base kit as it's only +$100.

I think we have to remember that the more heavily modified your truck is, the more you're going to run into issues with mods interfering with each other or simply being incompatible. I can't imagine winch users being the majority of the customer base, so you build for the majority (or just build for stock regardless) and keep in mind the exceptions, which is what I believe Mat is doing. Moving the intercooler up a little bit looks doable but may mean extra effort, trickier brackets, or other sacrifices that a non-winch user doesn't need or care about.

Mat said something to this affect in a much nicer way earlier in the thread.

I thought the base had a vertical IC. But yeah either way. I don't think Matt should be accomodating to anyone. Just build it and let the other people sort themselves out. Tbh, it might be a nice threshold for people that would normally complain about stupid shit and generally be a headache anyway. If u cant sort out moving the IC, then just stay away from the kit haha.

No doubt, the more you try to put under the hood, the more issues you will likely have.

But doesn't it go without saying Mat will make whatever decisions need to be made to serve the most customers? If we acknowledge that's true, there doesn't seem to be harm in providing Mat information about needs the majority (mods, non-winchers) do not have. Quite often, more information, early in a design process, can lead to solutions that serve a broader base with little or no cost or impact to the majority.

And yes, Mat is certainly free to ignore anything...as his needs dictate.

Not that you see super high temps in Alberta, but how much of a change did you see in coolant temps or needle movement after placing the IC in from of the radiator?

    Best regards,

Totally agree. I'm not saying the info isn't great to share and to make the request known, but it's been discussed before and Mat addressed it, that's all. This is a crazy long thread though so I can't reallllly blame anyone for not reading through the whole thing haha.

In the summer it can get pretty hot, I run a 170° degree Urd thermostat kit and monitor the water temp and tranny temp using a scangauge 2 and usually the coolant temps float around 80° Celsius (176°F) and up to 88° When towing.

To answer your question I didn’t monitor the ‘before’ temps so I can’t tell you the difference but it’s well within range post SC install. If you live in hot climate and have concerns a few good guys on TW help pioneer the CSF aluminum radiators for the 2nd gen. Maybe it can work on the 3rd??

So far nobody has shown me exactly how and where these winches mount so I cannot make any decision on any design change.

Hey OVTune, hope you're on the mend. I'm sure the aftermarket bumpers vary by manufacturer as will the winch models/installations.

Stoked about what you're doing for the 3rd gen's lack of grunt. Please continue to crank out your kits for fitment to the stock trims!

most of them are something similar to this. They remove crash bar and mount there right where the black nose is. The lo pro ones are the same just a bigger piece installed and that bumper section cut out.

While people use different winches and bumpers, one of the most common bumpers is shown in this winch install thread. All other bumpers that I'm aware of install in the same general fashion. As others have implied, it would only take a few inches to be a problem, but the more room you can give us, the more room we have to move other stuff around.

My apologies for it's length, but it does have some very good pictures. NOTE: The installer (Hodakaguy) removes a brace/bracket that others installing the same winch do not remove.

@Turd Hawg a few pages back confirmed he has this same winch. If this one can be made to fit, others will not be a problem.

To non-winchers: Thank you for your patience. Don't worry, Mat can manage his time and we'll be off this subject VERY soon as there really is only so much he can do. And it will be on to other things for him.

Not my pics but. This is the SSO slim line. I think it would be similar to all the slim line bumpers and probably many other plate bumpers.
    Hope this helps!

For those who have winches (myself included), it appears that the intercooler will easily fit in front of the radiator. The intercooler will otherwise not fit any lower than that with the winch. Speedwaytacotuesday has shown how this can be done with a little customized bracket and piping. If you are not able to do the fabricating, there are plenty of local shops that can likely handle this. I personally would rather OVT concentrate on tuning and getting the TT kit to market for both the MT and AT trucks.

I dont know much about the 3.5's construction... but I'm willing to bet it is far better than a 1987 Buick 3.8... and I know firsthand that those will survive 30psi.

Knock/detonation is primarily what kills a motor... until you start getting into crazy boost numbers... then it's the weakest link that lets go.

My LS2 Vette was fine on 93 octane up until around 8-10psi. At 12psi I had to start using an Alky kit to supplement the pump gas. 12psi = 636rwhp in that car.

With Matt tuning... I have absolute faith our 3.5's will live all day at 20psi.

I have the CBI hidden winch mount and the Smittybilt 10k X20 and it mounts to where the crash bar mounted. That bar gets removed and placed with the mount for the winch.

I definitely don’t want to undermine OV’s TT kit and I wouldn’t want to say anything to put the production or release date back but I personally think the grill mounted intercooler will provide much better air flow going thru the grill than below and thus will allow for a safer increased max boost threshold, coupled with a meth kit these TT kits could crank up a few psi’s no issues. But is everyone looking for max power like I am?? The answer is likely no. But will the grill mount work better for the majority of people’s setups vs the bumper mount my taco brain tells me absolutely.
To reiterate, if having the intercooler bumper mounted help expedite the release date then please bring em’ on!! I’ll deal with the IC move later.
