I agree that they are not ideal but if one is short on space... They really shine in the drag race scene- at the track. It’s an option I suppose for those with winches though.

I guess it'll come down to the differences in driving experiences between base and powermax. I'm sure people will still be tempted by the DI kit with the base turbos, but like you say, you're paying $1850 for only 25-30 more whp since the baby spinny bois are good for only 350ish (?)

yeah they are great for drag strips, short burst of boost followed by a cool down period. I personally think once that optimal sized intercooler is found to fit behind that grill it will be easy peazy with a little bracketry, assorted couplers and horn relocation etc. I will be in that boat shortly myself and not the least bit concerned

Because of that 350ish max capability on the base, I would suggest anyone with habits of wanting more power or tempted to get the DI option to maybe just pay a little more and get the powermax from the get go.

Not trying to argue with you, but that doesn't sound quite right. I would think SEMA would be all up in Virginias ass over that.

Of course Virginia has been extremely assbackwards as of late.

Correct me if im wrong, but i believe Magnuson came with a Supercharger for the 2nd gen Tacoma approved by Toyota Corp. and owners that wanted one needed to go to the dealership for installation to prevent voiding the warranty. I thought this concept for the 3rd gen was the same scenario. Either or, I would love to have one as well!

    Agreed.

I'm eyeing the base kit without DI pretty hard now. 7k for powermax + DI is more than I'm wanting to pay and I don't really need the extra boosts. I don't want a racetruck. 6.5psi should be great for fulfilling my vision for #toyotaecoboost lol

Just need the Corona virus shit to wind down and the new mounting solution since I have a winch

If Toyota had their name Badged on these turbo kits then that would apply. TRD no longer makes superchargers so that’s the end of that for now. Someone could probably chime in how they handle magnuson chargers tho? but because the 3rd Gen Tacoma are only getting a magnuson charger now before TRD had their hands on it, I’d think even those won’t apply.

    @OVTune

Those numbers are on 93 octane I presume? If yes, will there be tune options for 91 and if so any ideas on what the powermax kit at 9.5 PSI would make on 91?

Have you done any MT testing, curious how much abuse the stock clutch will take. My guess is not much

I'm in Virginia and have not had any problems with mods.
My tundra passed inspection with a supercharger and GTR passes with every mod imaginable

I guess, as long is installed properly I don't perceive any problems with the engine. Finding a good mechanic to do so is the hard part in my opinion, especially for those that aren't mechanically inclined.

For the Powermax kit, upgrading is probably prudent. For the base kit on 6.5psi, eh, I'm optimistic. If the stock clutch still needs upgrading, I won't be surprised. But I'm optimistic lol

i think it will totally depend on how you drive and the loads you carry. you can go either way depending on how you treat it, but i fully agree going any higher and it's really required.

I'm mainly optimistic about the base kit and the stock clutch holding up for myself at least because I don't have an obnoxiously heavy truck and I don't intend to beat the crap out of it with turbos. I've been down the rabbit hole with a racecar, it's not for me and my Tacoma lol my intentions for FI on this truck are pretty mellow

Oh it's definitely the plan, just curious at what point the stock one gives up at.
