fuel upgrades are required to run more than 7psi safely.

So I hope this is clear, because it has changed a bit, mainly due to advances in tuning. (using less Port)

The base kit on up to 6.5~7 psi requires no fuel upgrades at all. (complete stock fuel system)
the powermax kit up to 5~6 psi requires no fuel upgrades at all.

To run either kit on higher boost (up to about 14psi) requires only direct injector upgrade.
Power max kit more than 14psi requires direct injectors + in tank fuel pump upgrade.
Power max kit on more boost than 14psi and or ethanol requires in tank upgrade + port injectors + direct injectors.

the base kits are NOT recommend to run more than 14psi so we did not test fuel limits on more than 14psi on those.

Originally, if you recall we were trying to tune utilizing more port fuel to compensate for boost.
This was before we got the upgraded direct injectors.
When you use additional port fuel, the stock in tank fuel pump cannot handle it.

This reflects our new packages for the fuel system.

package 1 : direct injector upgrade only
package 2: direct injector + port injector + upgraded fuel pump

Disclaimer : this assumes your pump isn't one of toyotas faulty ones that randomly drop pressure. This CAN kill your engine if it's a faulty one.

Same. Amount. There is a limit to how much the direct injectors can spray based in injection window. We already run then near peak pressure so pre HPFP pressure isn't as much of a factor.

When port injectors require high usage is when the low pressure becomes critical

Also I’ve been meaning to ask but kept forgetting. Did you experience any tranny slippage while running the powermax kit at its higher boost setting? With the Aisin Tranny in the second gen Tacoma it wouldn’t take long after 350whp or so before the Tranny starts slipping which is why many including myself modified or upgraded the valve body for a crispier faster shift to mitigate the issue. Hoping the 3rd Gen ones are better and do not need to be touched.

I did not experience any slippage all the way to 550 ft lbs on the dyno. This is with torque converter fully locked. With torque converter unlocked there is the normal torque converter slop/slippage.

On the road it's hard to tell between tire spin, on dirt with all 4 spinning it doesn't seem so.

On the dyno, testing unlocked, the torque converter slippage is up to 700 rpm difference when under 2500 rpm, and doesn't start to align with axle speed until close to 4000 rpm

theoretically yes, but if it drops off pressure steep and fast enough you may not catch it in time. That said a wideband is still super helpful in aiding with little hints of this issue or any others before it blows your motor. Many out there like my innovate LC-2 comes with its own software so you can datalog.

I’m on the recall list. If I’m reading this correctly, my powermax low boost doesn’t come with a new fuel pump any more. You’re saying that with boost, versus without, my engine could be damaged if my current fuel pump loses pressure?

Are you going to sell your fuel pumps separately? It doesn’t look like Toyota has a plan to start replacing them any time soon, when I purchased this I was under the impression it came with a new pump. How much is your pump?
