    This, another engine to add to this list is Bmw’s s54(e46 m3 or z4m), Maximus psi runs 10’s all day long with their bolt on turbo. Again proper tuning and ms109 you’re at 700whp
    S54 reminds me of Supra motor, inline6 3.2, but with high compression and 8k redline though crappy narrow rod bearing

    Stock motor, stock ecu, stock driveline(6speed)

    I have to agree.. my old 370z was able to handle 500hp without any issues.. from a stock 330hp.

    Proper tuning and not redlining the crap out of your engine goes a long way.

    Same here with my 300z. Stock 205HP. Now at 18psi and hybrid turbo close to double HP. Only issue is fuel pump can't keep up for very long..

    Owned a s2000 for 6 years, knew and worked with 4 other owners that built theirs anywhere from 320 RWHP to 500+ and yeah the motor was predictably safe at up to 400. The rear ends blew up at anything above 300 though and the clutches quickly failed above that too.

    I'm sure our motors are safe with another 100 to the ground, I'm sure our diffs are pretty safe too. I'm also sure anyone driving a MT, like myself, should pocket and extra 1k for the clutch ahead of time.

    Yep, tune is a key factor. The fabricator for Powerfab automotive had a Turbo 500hp xrunner on stock block. Tuning was very important which allowed it to run safely. I believe it was his daily as well.

    We are going to need some way to monitor engine vitals.... so this is relevant to the TT kit.

    I mocked up a 52MM AFR to see how I would like the placement;

    [IMG]

    I have been driving around for a few days like this just to get an idea of angle, distance, visibility, etc.
    All while making WHOOOOSH noises pretending I have the OV Turbo kit:pout:

    But overall I think its a great location. If I get enough positive feedback...I'll make a final version, Scan it then help OV include it in his kit:headbang:

    A few more angles;
    (remember this is a quick mock up..not even close to finished!)

    I like it! Very clean and good location. Though where would the boost gauge go?

    All I had was this AFR laying around. But as previously mentioned, Matt suggested AEM's Failsafe gauge which has AFR and Boost all in 1 :)

    How about two gauge option and have it meet with the current console "hump"?

    Do you think it will interfere with the defroster? It looks to me like You have a little room to move it inboard a couple inches (which would also beneficially position it closer to the tach) if that’s the case.

    For bonus points, see if you can get a paint/texture match to the dark pewter surrounding the vents.

    @mesojdm - i think you should make a pod style mount over the center of the dash, above the radio. there was another guy who made some sort of plate up top that allowed people to mount phones and gps and stuff up there. make a single double, and triple pod for that area!

    Did Toyota figure a TRD supercharger into the build of the 1GR-FE when it came out? How about the 3URFE? How about the supercharged 2URGSE that was in Lotuses prototype car... What about the TRD Aurion that uses the same 2GRFE in the camry? 2AZFE Scion tC? Nope nope nope. TRD just added boost on top of all of those stock platforms.

    Bearings will flatten under boost.

    Can you just please stop. Bearings will flatten under boost? Valve seats will dislodge from the head. In almost all cases rod bearing damage is from oil pressure (lack of) clearance issues, overspinning (heat, momentary loss of oil film across the bearing), etc. I have never in my lift seen a bearing "flatten".. because they dont, they spin and get disintegrated.

    The reality is there are things called metal fatigue limits. These differ depending on what the alloy is, how it is created, etc (drop forged, billet, powder forged, crack cap, cast, etc). Then there are changes to these fatigue limits based on temperature. When you build a system to make more power you do so within the engines capability. BOOST, aka forced induction.. turbo.. supercharger.. you name it. It's just air, more air / higher VE entering the cylinder than the engines normal aspiration.
    But that does not even necessarily mean more power. Did you know I could very easily throw 10 psi at this engine and make less than stock? Is that going to flatten the bearings?? No. Because you control power through ignition, fuel, and camshaft timing.
    Lets say the engine is making 450 ft lbs at 2500 rpm. If I don't feel comfortable with that, I have multiple avenues I can take to safely lower power while still retaining the same amount of boost. Lowering camshaft advance, more of the air that has entered the cylinder will bleed back out into the intake manifold. This can create a higher, artificial boost pressures on superchargers (seen in the on the MX5 ND with the Edelbrock SC). And yet with this higher boost pressure, the car makes less torque than N/A with more advance.

    I've personally tuned the highest horsepower stock engine mx5 ND with 13:1 compression on pump gas with boost and can tell you that some of what your saying just doesn't conform with reality. I was in the car on the track, adjusting the tune, testing the limits. We pushed that engine to 7500 RPM on 18psi with methanol on STOCK ENGINE, stock rods, stock 13:1 compression pistons. We did not flatten any bearings, we did not have valve seats fall off, pistons didn't melt. The engine still runs fine and we are about to push the boost higher.

    Now could the tacoma engine blow up? Absolutely. Anything can happen. That's why we are testing on our truck first. We will find the limits, find out what's safe, and we plan to torture our truck in the process.
