Exactly. The issue can be more granular than the state level. For example only the major metro areas (certain counties) of Virginia have emissions testing.

Yep, and Virginia inspections don't care. My truck passed inspection with turbo kit on it.

Depends on where at. Some areas don't have emissions and some do.

can't say for sure - depends on where you live in Colorado and some undefined unknowns. Shit show. Some get a pass cause the inspector is slow and slower between the ears - others like to fail based on visual. 1st rule - do not take it to a Aire Care facility - those monkeys like to break shit and act like it is their job. Go through the roadside test. Your initial will have to be at the oh shit shop cause they will inspect it for oem emissions equipment. You probably could run the snails and or a SC but wait until after your initial passing emissions test - then use the roadside (every other year for inspections for cars resold or not new - new get a 7yr pass). Worst case you fail and may have to remove the mod. And btw - there are rumblings that the ENTIRE STATE is going to fall under the Air Quality Emissions Requirement.

I have also heard they are close to abandoning aire care colorado also after their next contact is up.

they are just a vendor that provides the service. Contracts come and go. Emission Laws are different especially when you live in a PM10 and COG area. The chances of our emission requirements going away or being relaxed are less than zero. But if all the people that moved here in the last 30 years would go back to the State they came from it might be possible.

I'm in pueblo no emission requirements here. You are completely right about the homeless population increasing. Working in a hospital I've talked to many people that came to colorado for the marijuana. I guess they probably didn't know it was going to be so expensive. There are far more homeless than there used to be.

    from the colorado.gov website

    County requirements
    • You must have an emissions inspection done on any gasoline-powered vehicle when you register, renew registration for, or sell the vehicle within the Automobile Inspection and Readjustment (AIR) program area. The program area covers all or parts of the following counties:
      • Adams (west of Kiowa Creek).
      • Arapahoe (west of Kiowa Creek).
      • Boulder.
      • Broomfield.
      • Denver.
      • Douglas.
      • Jefferson.
      • Larimer (Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, and surrounding mountain areas).
      • Weld (Greeley, Windsor and the I-25 corridor).
    • Vehicles registered to an address outside the program area but driven regularly into the program area (e.g., for work or school) must be inspected.

El Paso county, where colorado springs is, aint on that list

gotta a guess you are Military and not civilian ? Local law for Military is not the same as joe public. ?? If C Springs is not on the list they are lucky - we should all move there!

and there is no aircare stations down in colorado springs. only Diesel is required

    also from https://clerkandrecorder.elpasoco.com/motor-vehicle-department/additional-information-late-fees/

    Additional Information & Late Fees
    Emissions
    • If moving from another county within the state of Colorado, emission requirements and fees may differ. In El Paso County, emissions tests are required only for diesel vehicles.
    • However, if you commute to an area in the state that requires emissions tests at least 90 days per year for employment or school you will need an emissions test even though your vehicle is not registered in that area. Read more here https://tinyurl.com/tl2sevh.
    • Please contact our Motor Vehicle Office via email at motorvehicledept@elpasoco.com for information.
    • Online services are available, Emissions Waiver and Out-of-State Emissions Extension https://mydmv.colorado.gov. For further emissions information (including diesel requirements) click this link Colorado Motor Vehicle Emissions Program.

wish we were so lucky. Pretty sure twin snails or SC if done right are just as efficient as na. Lots of vehicles that have them and meet emission requirements - so adding after market options should not be such a pain in the ass.

I agree. If they meet emission requirements, who cares what is added on there.
