So read the whole darn thread and I'm still very excited but mildly concerned, does anyone know where to get 91 octane in Baja? I've had trouble finding anything decent down there but it must he available for the 500 surely?

Also full disclosure I'm British so I don't know about the smog check test in the USA as I'm new here that said I know CA has a very strict one. Does any one on here live in California and plan on adding this kit?

Wait and wait, wait some more then magnuson might have some out by spring with the 3 year or 36k mike warranty and smog certificate. Had a email convo with them today, didn’t hint once it was coming soon so don’t hold your breathe.

Clearest answer I got was they are working on other projects first and the 3rd Gen is in the future.

Ohh all the waiting, damn magnasson and there trolls at trade shows they just filibustered any time you bring up a supercharger for the 3rd gen and I've brought it up with them a few times..jjust won't give you a straight answer right? would much rather give my cash to orange virus who is actually helpful And gives clear information. It's a shame tho by the time a supercharger is available my engine bay will be choc full of nosense farkles I'm interested if anyone is thinking of making an expresso press using forced induction?

It should still make some noise. My previous vehicle had an OEM BPV, full recirc back to the intake, and it still made a little noise. These should too unless I'm thoroughly misunderstanding something. There's only so much you can do to mask the sound of releasing compressed air. Lol that being said though, you definitely won't be hearing the trademark sounds characteristic of VTA BOVs. Which is fine

Probably going to have to continue to wait since I expect that Mat's priority right now is releasing 1.05 with the new version of flash manager and custom tuning options and the rest of that interface. Likely wont be seeing turbo updates til after that's released and done with

ahh gotcha. I was considering buying the 1.04 but I guess Ill wait for the next one. Unless itll be available to those who purchased the 1.04 version. Also curious to know if the turbo will have a separate tune package as well.

side note: on the 1.04 it called for 91 octane, does that mean the truck would need to remain on 91 even after the tune? Assuming it would run better regardless but just wanting to know if it was necessary.

    thanks

You get access to 87 and 91 versions of each map. If you are on one of the updated post-TSB ECU versions, you can only run 1.04R or the forthcoming 1.05. If you are on an older ECU, you have access to previous maps. Also, customers have access to any future updates, so yes, you could purchase now and still get 1.05. If you cannot get your hands on an older map, a member with the same ECU version can email you the map you wish to run.

To directly answer your question about octane, it depends on the map you are running, which brings us back to the point about having 87 and 91 octane maps. If you flash 1.04 91 oct, run 91 oct. If you flash the 87 octane map, run 87 or higher

Mat has said that current customers will be able to just go on and download the tune file required, and that the turbo kits will have two options: for current OVT customers and for those who are not yet tuned. So it has been heavily implied without direct statements that there will be a large discount for those individuals who are already tuned, as repurchasing the hardware at the absolute least would be pointless, and it looks like the tune file may also be wrapped up in that? Not sure about the tune file itself. So we're looking at anywhere from perhaps 350-770$ off?

I prefer the sound of the turbos spooling up IMHO compared to a blower whine

Reading this, makes me curious if adding the turbos to this engine would make it comparable to the Ford 3.5 Ecoboost. While my Tacoma is at the dealer for the next week or 2, they gave me a new F150 3.5 EB as a rental. Things pretty amazing as far as power/acceleration. Definitely makes my Taco feel slow as shit. Would these turbos make it the same as this F150? If so, I'll be 1st in line purchasing one.

Mat - Please check inter-cooler placement on a vehicle with a hidden winch. Tacoma's outfitted with armor/winches are prime candidates for a turbo. Especially since you have taken into account off-road "usability" in some, not as yet described, manner. Many people with armor/bumpers/winches also carry other extra weight and/or tow.

So.....we need the inter-cooler to fit with a winch behind the bumper. A good example of a bumper to look at might be at the Southern Style Offroad Slimline. If the inter-cooler will fits on a Tacoma with this bumper and a winch as the bumper was designed to accommodate, the inter-cooler should fit many/most other designs (CBI, SSO, etc.).

Here is a link to an install guide that should show you clearly what you need to know to determine if the inter-cooler will fit or if installation can be modified to make it fit. I for one would be interested to know. If the inter-cooler won't fit with a winch/bumper installed, then I will try to go another route.

Letting us know ASAP will allow us to plan and probably translate to the most sales for you if we don't trap ourselves into a situation where the turbo kit can't be installed.

    Thanks!
