It's a non issue on batch one. I put a set of the catted downpipes on my truck to verify and it doesn't touch at all.

On MESOs it looks like it's scraping all the heat wrap.

It never touches on my truck and should not on others. If I had to guess maybe MESO didn't angle it far enough away before doing his custom exhaust, because before tightening the exhaust bolts onthe turbine housing the downpipe has some side to side wiggle room.

Or maybe the clearance with heat wrap isn't enough. Because the downpipe clearance is tight at that spot but should not touch.

MESO set his up a little different, but the reason we leave room near the block is this is where the oil drain routes down to the pan. Maybe his custom exhaust allowed it to get a little closer or something.

very very unlikely the oil seals / turbo is damaged. Damage caues from surge or overspinning or lack of oil. oil backing up into the housing just will leak out the exhaust side, by design.

off to finish up some instructions emails, and trying to get some better videos of my truck for you guys too.

    You'll get it sorted.

I take it by how the exhaust is all mounted now, no wiggle room to move it closer to the block and adding a support bracket of sorts?

I’m thinking that too. Pulling the exhaust and cleaning it out will be the easiest test. Overall I’m surprised there’s only 2 little issues with the amount of modifications that were done. So I can’t complain much. Ready to start seeing other reviews on this TT kit!

@MESO I'm guessing you're still running lower boost (6-7 PSI) while working out kinks.... For a daily driver, would you be satisfied with the power gains at that level? Obviously anything has to be better than stock, but curious how much better.

My boost controller is turned all the way down and my boost is still spiking to 9-10Psi @ WOT. So I guess that’s the lowest setting I have:rofl:
Power is very noticeable so I’d say you’ll be fine @7psi for daily.

Shitty to hear of your issues, and glad you see it as glass half full.
I am hoping that OV is right and that your driver side DP is just simply moved more away from the block compared to his, within the side to side play of the DP. Hopefully for the rest of us running the stock y-pipe or URD ypipe it will be a non-issue. I bought and was hoping to be heat wrapping the downpipes as well but this has me second guessing it.

Have you gotten your tune dialed in yet?

I test fitted both the catted and catless on my truck to ensure both clear it. They both do. It is a tight fit though so I think if you have a half inch thick worth of exhaust wrap on it, it may rub.

That’s relieving to hear. I may do a two part wrap and leave that approximate area unwrapped. Does anyone know if that leaves it prone to future cracks due to the different temps between the exposed vs wrap parts?

Also keep in mind MESO took the exhaust flange support off and replaced it with a v band. So now we know, if you replace the flange with a v band you will need more clearance. With the flange support in place, it won’t move as much.

Why or how would it crack. There are no welds in that location and we aren't using paper thin steel. No more likely to crack than stock exhaust would, which is not wrapped.

These brackets are actually not re-used with our downpipes.

The turbo kit was designed for a stock truck. So modifying a bunch of bits can make some things need adjusting.
Anyways @MESO if you want another set of downpipes just to be sure just let me know. I have plenty of extra catless.

So this bolt hole isn’t used? If not, I’ll have to modify mine since I’ll be wrapping it. No biggie.

No, they are there but not re-used. The reason for this is the exhaust does need *a little bit* of ability to flex. When I had solid setup downpipes I snapped a bolt on my stock exhaust (at high psi, but regardless). the stock motor mounts are quite soft so there has to be some torque absorption.

When you install the downpipes you'll see that those holes are not exactly like stock, originally we planned to make our own brackets. But testing made worse results than with.

I really think if you install the kit just like it shows on the instructions, you won't have any problems at all.

Ok, makes sense. I remember that being the reason you added the flex joint to the dp. I replaced my motor mounts with Solid Offroad mounts, so shouldn’t be as bad.

Yeah I cut the down pipe mounting flange off which had a hole to attach to the factory bracket(bolting it to the engine) . Now with the weight of the exhaust system hanging onto the downpipe which may have contributed to the extra flex. Anyways not a big deal and thanks for the offer OV!

Hot spot vs cold spot on the same material can stress the material and lead to crack, no? I dunno, not my area of expertise.
Good to know it’s not paper thin, and not likely to crack.
