    Hi folks,

I'm purchasing a vehicle from a private seller in PA and need to transfer the title to MA. I've purchased vehicles from out-of-date in the past (CT->MA, CO->MA) and it was pretty straight forward (just sign the title over and go to RMV in MA).

In PA, you typically go to a notary for title transfers. So my question is...will we need to do the notary thing in PA (we'll be there together) or do they just sign title over to me as usual and I go to MA RMV?

The answer...in case anyone is in a similar situation:

In a private sale the PA resident can sign the title over on the back. Since the PA titles do not have as much information as the MA do it is recommend writing up a bill of sale:

Along with title, you need a “Bill of Sale” (handwritten or typed) for the vehicle with the following information:
    • Name and address of buyer
    • Name and address of seller
    • Date of purchase
    • Purchase price
    • Vehicle identification number (VIN)
    • Year, make and model of vehicle
