    Hi All,

Long time reader, first time OP. Is anyone else experiencing paint chipping? The pictures I took are on both the right and left side of the front inside fenders where the hood mates up.

Below are two pictures on the right side and two pictures on the left side. I'm sure this is covered under warranty?

Certainly looks like a manufacturer defect in paint prep, but hard to say what the dealer will say. Probably close the hood and say they couldn't replicate the issue or "this is normal". I'd take it in and have it looked at to give the dealer the opportunity to rectify. Contact corporate if they don't fix it...

Being that your truck is already 3 years old they'll probably tell you to kick rocks but damn that's pretty pathetic.

Looks like someone was slacking off at the paint booth.

My 07' super white is doing that in one of the door jambs. That really sucks especially on a much newer vehicle and this is part of the reason that my current Tacoma will be my last one.

Toyota isn't as great a product as it once was

How about some pics of the underside of the hood on each side to see if there are issues matching up to the same areas on the inner fenders??

I could provide some later today, but the hood doesn't show any signs of wear and tear. Actually, when in the driver's seat, you can see the chipped paint, near the battery, coming up past the hood and visible while bopping down the road.

Unless the robots were fully pushed through software and process validations, it is very possible they are responsible for the issues. Robots are only as good as the programming they receive, calibration, and other variables (e.g. was there adequate primer/paint being fed to the spray gun within established process parameters for pressure, flow, viscosity, etc?).

    wow, that sucks man.

At nearly 4 yrs old or more(my 2016 is almost 4.5 yrs old), I doubt the dealer will do anything but it's worth a shot, clearly that's a manufacturing issue and not something you caused.

Yes, seamless process. He said this is the third super white with the same problem this week.

This is not Toyota only. This is across the board with every car manufacturer, check other forums discussions as well. At least once a month I go to car meets and this is a problem that some are having, my friend has a 2018 ZR1 Corvette with the same issue different spots and approached the dealer at least 3 times in one year. They should fix it or at least help pay 60% of the repair.

It’s not rocket science, they need to up their game, no excuses on something simple like this.

I’ve been seeing more of these posts pop up lately for SW paint. Now I’m worried about my paint flaking off at some point lol. And I’m sure living in Florida and being close to the beach doesn’t help haha.
