So I'm washing my truck today and I get to the passenger side and notice a paint chip about the size of a pea right be the window. I have no idea how or when it got there. I know it wasn't there 2 days ago. Makes me sick. I'm headin to the Toyota place tomorrow to get some touch-up paint...Should I put a layer or 2 of clear coat over it? Or just put a few layers of the touch-up on it?

I have to drive from Cali to Idaho once a month or so. Get a paint chip or chip in the windshield every trip. F en sucks. I just put 2 or 3 coats of touch up on it. Or Wall Marts Fix O Chip for the windshield. That stuff actually kicks ass.

I feel your pain, just waxed the truck the other day and found 3 small chips on the roof. Any one know what toyota charges for the touch up paint?

TU paint costs about $9 at the dealer, got some for my Indigo truck and it matches nicely.

I feel your pain........I had the same thing happen, but I got my pea sized chip one week after buying my 09'. The TU paint from Toyota matches perfect but I cannot get the paint to stick. I have retouched the chip about four times now, hopefully I got it clean enough last time that the paint will not come off this time.

That's what I was curious about. If the paint was going to stick well with nothing but the TU paint. I wasn't wanting to have to touch it up every few weeks or months. Thanks for all the input so far guys.

Just clean off the wax first using a mild polishing compound, it will stick fine. Don't use the touch up brush in the bottle, use a very small artists brush and you'll be happier with the results. Let it dry completely, go over again with polishing compound and then lay a coat of wax over the top and you're done.

I have had good results from Toyota's touch-up primer before applying the color. Comes in the same size container, a brush and costs the same as the color. It sucks having to wait until the next day to get the color on (OC disorder!), but it's yielded great results for me. Also it acts like a slight filler, and doesen't look so recessed just using the paint directly. This alone, for my OC crap, is worth the extra $9.

Depending on the size and depth of the mark, I'll use 1-2 coats of Toyota touch-up paint, works well. My only complaint it on larger scratches, where it's very easy to tell it's been touched up.

I was wantin to get this taken care of ASAP...but of course none of the dealerships around me have any super white touch up paint in stock right now. That's usually how it happens for me.

I feel your pain. I went on a 12 hour drive to Calgary about a month after getting the truck. Some jackass in a Chevy going the opposite way decided to swerve into the median, spraying me with a barrage of gravel. Now my hood has 3-4 paint chips, and a spider-web crack in the windshield... Pissed me off. I just have to wait till I have a free weekend to wash and paint the chips. In Canada, the touch up paint comes in felt marker like tube, with paint in one end, and clear coat in the other.... don't know if it's the same in the States.

Same here. Noticed a chip in the hood big enough to force me to get some touch up paint and cover it. Such is life.

I found some at Advance Auto Parts that is Toyota Super White. It has a brush and a little ball point on the bottle. I had several that were the size of a pencil lead. The ball worked perfect, fills the chip in when you press the tip in. Works way better on these little chips than a brush, IMO. I don't know about the other colors, but the Super White matches perfectly. I honestly can't tell where most the chips were, I can only locate two that were maybe the size of a BB, and I have to look for those. I think the landscape guys at work slung some rocks and crap around while weed eating. I have since acquired a new parking space and have not found anymore chips.

Eh, I splurged and spent the 8.51 plus tax on the Toyota Paint. I decided not to skimp on her since she's my baby. Then if it doens't match I can always blame the dealership. lol

Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I initially bought some from the shop at the dealer. Best of luck with it. :)
