I have a 2014 tacoma a bought brand new ~2 years ago, about 1 year ago I noticed what looks like rust colored patches on my tailgate. Was hoping somone might know what caused this or if this is a known deffieciency. Thanks for any help!

Is it on the surface or etched into the clear coat? Can you get a more detailed picture?

Did you remove the V6 badge when you dipped it? If so, did you use a chemical for removal?

No I just plasti dipped all my badges. It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks like rust under the paint. I clay bared my truck today and focused on that spot and it did nothing

Ha no prob. To be honest, I have no idea what it is. But it almost looks like the clear coat is breaking free from the base coat? That's the only guess I have for you.

That can happen if there were something on the surface when the clear coat was sprayed. Condensation, a bit of grease or oil, coulda been anything. Are you still under warranty?

If it were mine, I'd look into getting it addressed quickly if that is, in fact, what is going on. I doubt it will spread, but eventually, it's gonna flake off that spot. At that point, it probably will spread.

    None... Yet.
I had a similar problem with my 2011. Paint bubbles on the drivers side door, which eventually cracked and showed rust. Had the dealer paint the door - they must not have sanded it down because the rust is back in the same spot. Now I've gotta see if they will come good for their screw up.
