Anyone else having paint issues? My 17 looks like it didnt get enough clearcoat on the roof. Went to the dealership yesterday and hopefully toyota will stand behind it and repair or repaint.

Saving $20 worth of clear coat per truck adds up. Share Holder Value at all cost is the new norm. Just like the intentional short pours of differential and transmission fluids.

From the info I've seen it was the actual blue paint that was flawed, not a lack of clear. The paint eats the clear away from the inside out.

My 97 black Tacoma original paint is great. My 2012 Toyota Rav EV has pearl white paint that is peeling in large ( 10 inch ) sheets on the roof. Evidently the military green primer is very slick , I found out this is a common problem with Toyota too late.

Yeah......and they did it on the top where the chances of noticing it would be slimmer.

My roof isnt in great shape...Ive got a rack up there, I wish now I wouldve put some bedliner downfirst.
Taking off the rack isnt something I ever want to do.
It was a pain to get in on right in the first place.

I see so many newer cars these days with paint that looks like that and there's no way that should happen, so my first thought is they just never washed or waxed it. But I'm sure there is more to it.

If my pro starts doing that in 2 years I'd die.

My hood and and roof paint is toasted. The rest of it looks great. Any tips here or just get it repainted?:spending:

My dealership is currently repainting my roof at no charge. Hoping that the rest of the truck is good..

Not pointing the finger at you here, but just for conversation sake what are your wash and care methods?

I wash it at least once a month with car soap. And I waxed it twice last summer and once the summer before.. from what Ive read it's been a problem for several others. And as per Toyota rep. " the issue is under investigation "

It has absolutely nothing to do with frequency or method of washing, unless you wash with sandpaper.
Go to a junkyard and see paint that has not been washed or waxed for 20 years still looking good. Find a fanatic who washes it daily and waxes it weekly and the paint still looks good.
In this case, it's all about the color and the clear interaction.

St. Louis Line-X dealer quoted me $650 to do the cab roof and hood. If my paint on this new truck starts looking like that you can bet your ass I'll get it done.

$4,500 to $5,000 for the entire exterior.

So my local dealer got permission from toyota to repaint the roof only.. but was confident that if any other problems with the paint were to come about toyota would take care of me as the initial issue happened before my warranty was up.. now here I am a couple months later and outside of my warranty and my hood has started with the same thing. I've spent the last week trying to get a case# and get ahold of a case worker with toyota. Today i spoke with one. I asked that the truck be repainted as I dont want to continue having it repaired an panel at a time. To which he responded with" well you are outside of your Warranty " he is supposed to get back to me by friday with some more answers

    I know, I know!
Curious if this is a factory issue. Is there a pattern of origin regarding quality control, Texas or Mexico? Not sure if this had been discussed.

Paint warranty is different that your base warranty. Not sure how the warranty reads for defects, but I know rust they want to see perforation before they will warranty it
