I learned early on in life that most extended warranties (on anything) are nothing more than just worthless quick money grabs. And even as of late I'm starting to realize that standard warranties on auto parts are about just as worthless (I'm not talking about OEM vehicle warranties) as they'll try & use just about every excuse in the book to weasel their way out of honoring them.

I've seen similar on aircraft door jambs but general consensus is that the inflatable door seals increasing sealing pressure along with closing the doors before the paint is cured and the seals adhering is the cause. In any case, the fix is to apply a very light coat of silicon grease about once every year. On a car that gets used daily it might need to be more often but you can go by feel. Only downside is that silicon is not great for some kinds of foam/rubber but there are other products for those materials that accomplish the same thing. I just use the silicon grease (DC-33) on my door seals and have not had any problems. It seems to help in the winter with icing, too. The stuff I use is clear and colorless so you don't notice it even on white vehicles. Just rub it in until it's just leaving a shiny surface but does not have any buildup and you're good to go.

Yes, I've always hand washed as well. Also waxed 3-4 times a year with good quality wax. Seems like all that work was a waste of time.

Looks like I'm not the only one having this happen. I made a post before finding this thread. Here's my post with pictures:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/advice-paint-has-bubbled-and-then-peeled.674961/

I guess I'll contact Toyota to add myself to their growing list of complainants, but in the end I'll try to fix it myself before it gets any worse. Many thanks to whoever posted the info about the automotivetouchup.com site. If anyone had success with the DIY, I hope you'll post some updated pictures.

That looks like a great kit but they don't ship to Canada. I ordered a kit from another site paint2fix.com I'll update with pics when I get it.

Old thread is old, I know - but having the same issue with my super white Tacoma. Went to the dealer collision center and they won't consider it apart of the recall even though it's the same f'ing paint as other Toyota's.. called Toyota Corp. and spoke to every department I could while explaining my case and the issue of Tacomas not being apart of the issue. They said if more people called to complain then they might do something about it, but until then it's my responsibility.

It's getting worst each week and I really don't want to drop $1k at a detailer but idk what else to do..

Make sure that you KEEP all of your paperwork where you complained before and any paperwork where you paid for corrective action. Then IF they decide to make this a service campaign you can be reimbursed.

My ‘03’s Super White paint has started peeling off the rear fenders big time. Spoke with Corporate and they said take it to a dealer but wouldn’t commit to any reimbursement. Local dealer referred me to their body shop. Body shop manager shot it down without hardly looking at it. Older truck so I wasn’t surprised.

Reading all these threads I find it hard to believe owners of late model Tacomas are still having this same problem. WTF is Toyota still using this problematic single stage paint?

If I was to tackle all the prep work myself, how much would it cost (ballpark) to have the truck re-sprayed with decent paint?
