So anyone ever try or think why I should not paint the upper part of my headlamps instead of buying and painting eyelids. I like the look waaaaaay better with eyelids so not going to take them off. Any down sides that I am missing??

Have you ever thought about Vinyl?

I did mine in vinyl, I did not have to remove my head lights and it is not permanent. Plus it is easy to get them even.. once you do one side, flip your template over and you get an exact copy of the other side.

Any sign shop should have a good color choice so you can match your paint.

I would rethink the paint option. Eyelids and such are seen by many as major league ricer territory and you may want to get rid of it eventually. If you want to do it and like the look, I would avoid the paint route, if at all possible. You want something that you can just take off quickly, without having to buy new parts or strip off paint. My two cents and just my opinion.

    I think I payed about $10 in vinyl, I just asked for 2 pieces 22 inch x 6 inch.

To get the shape I wanted.

    • Take blue painters tape, cover your light (like you were going to mask it off).
    • Draw the look you want on the tape (the eye lid).
    • Remove the tape from your light in one big peace.
    • Cut out your drawing.
    • Place your drawing on your vinyl and cut it out.
That's one side done. Take the backing of the vinyl, flip it over, cut out your next eyelid using the first as a template.

    Thanks.

It is vinyl as well, Living in AZ it helps.. 360 days of sun, the glare off the hood is crazy here.. The flat black helps a lot.

I took the idea from this

I guess think of it like a linebacker in football.. Stadium lights can be a bitch

I asked him a few months ago and he said he wasn't doing them. I will ask again though. I already cut out my grille for a Satoshi Grille and did the BLHM so a little "ricey" is ok!!! LOL!!!

accidentally stumbled upon this thread, thought I'd chime in. When my buddy was painting my replacement bumper with OEM (E7 or F7) Silver Streak Mica paint I mentioned to him how I was thinking about getting the sleeper eyelids. He told me he wouldn't mind painting them on at which point I realized that was possible. I had already planned on getting new headlights since mine we're cracked and said fuck it why not.

Taped it off, gave a light sanding, put on about 4 coats of primer, 5 coats of paint, and only about 2 coats of clear coat (from a rattle can). He had only finished the painting that night and we never got around to putting on the CC so one day (like 2 weeks later) I was sitting in the parking lot and grabbed some I had in the back and hit it up.

Hasn't faded or anything and I really like the look, it's even held up to some gnarly branches from off roading. Here's what she looks like today:

If you don't have OEM paint and go rattle can from like auto zone make sure you sand it down pretty good and put on a few coats of primer. Overall it was not hard at all, the most time difficult thing was putting paper all over the front so I didn't get overspray anywhere else

I think it gives the truck a much more confident look while still being pretty subtle.
