    not "gun guy" but if the jaws were padded with a bit of cloth or foam and the butt supported on a bench, I don't see why not. maybe not firmly enough to drive in/ out pins, but enough to insert & remove screws or adjust a sight. the round base has holes so it can be screwed into the workbench or a large piece of wood.

    not trying to queer the deal, but for 50 bucks I would buy something like this:
