I think it used to be lit up, just can't remember for sure. The hot/cold dial is not illuminated. Also my gear selector on the auto transmission console does not light up. Guess I will need to figure out how to get into those spots and replace bulbs.

The panel sucks. It is super fragile. Please note: the lights are installed from the backside. They utilize a turn and twist type of install. I accidentally broke my panel and now half my lights won't work...I guess I'll order the ridiculously overpriced part someday.

Hmmm. It's been awhile since I've installed a CD player, but, isn't there a wire that sends a signal to the CD player so that it knows when you have turned your light on and adjusts your interior lights to a dimmer setting? Maybe that's the culprit...just not sure how that could be screwed up as I imagine you used a wire harness kit.
