    I just read a report on cnn.com

They are Santa Ana winds from the desert(hot and dry) with gusts exceeding hurricane strength. The top speed recorded so far was 97 mph.

it was bad enough to keep me up all night...

by the looks of the flag and whip on my truck, up in the canyon where i live, we saw winds between 60-70 mph...

i spent this morning picking up pieces of shingles from other houses that landed on our front lawn...

one of our trashcans got blown over a 4 foot balcony railing and down our slope...

local news said they got a report of wind clocked over 100mph out in the desert communities...

in the middle of the night i had to go outside and bring our trashcans into the garage as they got blown into the middle of the street... as i turned to face the wind, one gust pushed me hard enough to knock me a couple steps backwards...

it was crazy last night... haven't been in wind that bad since last year's windstorm out in the Mojave Desert...

yah, we hardly ever get wind that strong for that duration of time... the wind sounded like jet planes taking off... shook our whole house almost like the intial part of an earthquake...

I just finished picking debris up around the house. You guys should see what Pasadena looks like. Entire trees were uprooted and flung across streets. You know those really old, tall trees? the kind that are decades, sometimes 100 yrs old? They're split down the middle and blocking streets, laying on the tops of cars and million dollar homes everywhere.

Certain parts of old town/downtown looked more like off road trails than city streets. I got to drive over everything while all the prius' had to go around.
