I have a 09 DC, and the passenger seat airbag/seat buckle sensor is not recognizing when an adult sits in the passenger seat. There is no on/off switch in DC's, as the passenger seat is equipped with a sensor to detect the weight of an adult.

Anyway, does anyone know how I can fix this and/or replace the sensor in the passenger seat? I have searched everyone on TW but haven't found anything. Any help would be much appreciated! I don't want to spend $300 for the dealership to replace a $5.00 part.

    Thanks!

Hey man, one thread is enough.

Duplicates just clutter and confuse the issue...

Anyhow, as I asked on the other thread, how do you know it's not working? What's the symptom?

    Thanks for the reply.

I posted on two different threads because I live in the southwest region and wanted to see if anyone near me would see the post - in case they had a quick fix. So I apologize for cluttering the forum, I wasn't trying to. Thanks for correcting me.

Regarding your question about what symptoms I am having, the indicator light below my radio does not always say "on" when an adult sits down on the passenger seat. Sometimes it does work and sometimes it doesn't. I can push down on the seat when it isn't working and it still won't work. Other times, it just randomly will start working (i.e., it correctly says on/off). So here's my question - can I replace the seat sensors in my seat without replacing the seat?

    Thanks,

    Levi

have you checked the electrical plugs under the seat to make sure they are tight?

Yea I checked those yesterday. Everything looks fine under there too. All the wires/plugs look okay. Also, the airbag light is not on on my dashboard so I doubt it is throwing a code. Any idea where the sensors are in the seat itself?

What I've noticed is that lights hard to read.

Does the on/off by any chance correspond to when your lights are turned on?

When my daughter sits in the seat the "OFF" indicator is more visible.

The thing is, the airbag is on when the seat is empty, or an adult is sitting in it.

It's only "off" when there's a light person less than 60lbs sitting there.

One way to test it, is to sit in the seat with your seat belt unbuckled. If the red buckle up light flashes then you know it's really working.

You might also need to calibrate it. I've found that if I sit in the seat with your seat belt on and then turn on the truck it will reset the calibrations. I found this out when I installed my stereo because I had that thing below the radio unplugged but I turned on my truck to test the radio before installing the trim and the air bag light came on. Well after I did the calibration/reset thing the airbag light went out on its own. Just something to try.

It is hard to see when the lights are on, but that's not it. Mine will say "off" even when there is no one sitting in the seat. Also, my red buckle up light is not flashing either.

Also, it just started working again randomly. Hopefully it will stay fixed...

    Thanks for all the help

Yeah, if it lights up "OFF" when no ones sitting there, something's wrong.

I've pulled the bench seat mostly apart, but even then left that sensor in place, between the foam and the wire support mesh.

The easiest thing might be to replace the entire seat with a same year seat from a wrecking yard.

Actually, the simplest thing to try and the first thing the dealer would do is unplug and re-seat all the connectors (with the battery negative terminal disconnected.)
