    Got mine installed yesterday.

Not much to add to what has already been posted.

When inserting the terminals into the connector, they have to be oriented correctly. Rotate the wire until you find the spot where it slides in easily and locks in place.

I added wire loom to protect the wires.

I also did the speaker upgrade at the same time. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/premium-audio-upgrade-for-less-than-250.510424/

Many thanks to the O.P for figuring this out!

Thank you OP! This, and ability to lock the tailgate with the remote are the two things I want for my Tacoma. I’m amazed that these are not an available option from the factory. (I installed a pop-n-lock on my tailgate this weekend and love it)

I ordered my door handle and connectors today. Thank you for this write up OP. I’ll be following your instructions closely when I get the parts.

I'm still very confused on who gets tailgate lock and who doesn't. My 2017 OR DCSB has factory tailgate lock. Is it because I have the tech package?

Interesting, I have the tech package and didnt get the tail gate auto lock (have to use a key). I was sure it wasn’t even a factory option. Did you buy used?

No Tacoma comes with tailgate lock. It’s an aftermarket add on.

With the same key that opens the tail gate and the door? My tiny key opens both. I had to verify this when I got the card mod.

Everyone gets a manual tailgate lock that operates with a phisical key. I believe some are talking about an automatic lock such as a Pop&Lock. No Tacoma comes factory with this, though some dealers and distributors will install one, Toyota even lists it as an accessory.

Also, on the 2016, the key for the tailgate and doors are different. From 2017 plus, the key is the same as the one in the smart key fob. This goes for the PTS models, don’t know about the H-Key models.

Mods: Is this still a Tacoma?
Actually it’s regional. Regardless of 3rd party or not, Gulf states get it as an add on option when configuring a Tacoma online but only have 14 or 16 accessories to chose from while other regions like the west coast don’t have it listed at all but get up to 45 accessories to chose from when configuring...go figure...I’ll never get this. That’s what I would really like explained. Don’t believe me, build a tacoma on the toyota website using a Los Angeles zip code, then do the same thing all over using say a New Orleans zip code.

Sounds like you just explained it.
Gulf states and South East Toyota are privately owned distributors, so they probably have different accessories, many aren’t truly “Toyota” that can be added at the “port” or distributor level than the other regions which are owned by Toyota.

Bottom line is every 3rd Gen Tacoma comes factory with a manual tailgate lock, and no Tacoma comes factory with an automatic tailgate lock, but many can get an aftermarket auto lock added before purchase, whether at the distributor or dealer.

Gulf States and South East are privately owned regions, every other region is Toyota owned.

Hopefully doing this mod in the near future. Just emailed Camelback Toyota to have them try and find the Cavalry Blue door handle part number for me. Will post when I get the part # so the first post can be updated to include it.

That's the part number I was given by Camelback Toyota for the Cavalry Blue door handle.

Finished my install today. Works perfectly! Running the wires behind the carpet along the firewall was easier for me then running under the seats. It was a challenge getting the wires through the door boot. After struggling to fish a hanger from the door cavity into the footwell unsuccessfully for about 15 minutes, a discovered that it was a lot easier going from the footwell into the door cavity.

This was a fairly simple install following the OP’s instructions with all the parts recommended by him. Thank you Victory!
