I surrender. I've read this entire thread and for the life of me cannot figure out visually how I would use a drivers side handle on the passenger side. I've seen it stated to just flip it but I just don't see it. Will someone please explain or show me a picture or a video of this exact procedure that everyone obviously gets except me.

    Thank in advance from stupid.

You gotta remember, its only the actual handle that you pull on to open the door. Not the entire assemble. Go look at that handle piece on your truck and it basically just goes back in upside down on the passenger side. The little grooves that you see on the top which you can touch to lock the door are also on the bottom so when you flip it upside down it still looks exactly the same.

I guess I couldn't see the forest for the trees. I never noticed the knurls on the underside of the handle. Thanks.

Now I gotta find the correct drivers side handle. I have the Limited (black on the outside, chrome in the middle.) When I select that one in the 1st post (Limited with chrome stripe: Black 69210-04030-C0), it links to the original passenger side door handle, not the drivers side. Does anyone have a good part number for the drivers side door handle that I need.

    20181221_002405.jpg

Edit: I ended up figuring it out, I think, and have ordered from McGeorge Toyota out of Richmond, Va. $183.28 for everything including shipping. The part number is correct in the 1st post but it links to the wrong part. It links to 69210-04040-C0 (which is for the front passenger door handle.) The correct part number for the front drivers door handle is for the Limited with chrome stripe: Black 69210-04030-C0. I tried to find the part on rockauto, Amazon and ebay but couldn't.

When you go to install, detach the boot that goes from the truck to the door with all the wires inside. Compress it so it isn't an "S" anymore. Will save you a ton of frustration when fishing the wire through.

    Good modding.

Thanks brother! I just did it today in a 17 Tacoma, it took me sometime to do it but it’s worth it!
Again thanks for this excellent write up!

Thanks for all of the valuable information throughout this rather lengthy thread at this point. I believe this is a valuable feature and I'm looking to add this in the very near future. Since I'm already looking to swap out the chrome handles as well, now would be the time to do it.

I do have a question regarding the door handle part numbers. I have a super white limited and was thinking about going with black handles. Upon my searching, it appears that there are 3 different, non-chrome black handles:

    69210-0E080-C0 - Attitude Black MC 218
    69210-0E080-C1 - Black 202
69211-04030 - Black BMax Package (apparently only non-smart version)

Any thoughts on what the differences are between these particular handles? I figure that someone may have needed to order a black handle and just curious which one your ordered.

    Thanks in advance!

    Tom

Ok, need some tech support. Picture of the place in the instructions where I'm stuck, and picture of my door. Trying to figure out if I'm tapping wires on the door, or replacing a connector with the one I just made. Either way I don't see the wires or connector I think I'm looking for. Some help? Nervous to pull stuff off or cut the wrong wires.

The connector you made will plug into the new "smart" handle that you bought. You'll take new wires and connect them to the leads from that connector, and fish that wire through the door, into the kick panel, under the carpet to the driver side and then tap those wires into the green and blue wires of the driver door handle.

Ah. Hence all the complaining about getting them through the boot. Ok, gotcha :)

You will need to pull back the plastic on the door to see the back of the handle

Hello @Victory, sorry I didn't go through all the pages, but I was wondering if you or anyone here know the part number of the Terminal Repair Wire that goes through main door harness? Usually there are blank spots to add pins, but I could be wrong. Thanks so much for putting this write-up together, it's awesome!!!

I just have the terminal wire for the connector on the back of the handle. I don’t anticipate ever needing to remove the door, or any other reason I would need to go through the factory connector at the door so I didn’t think spending $50ish (remember you would need two on each side of the connector) would be worth it just to make it slightly cleaner install behind the door (and behind the peel back plastic).
I did get and install the terminals in the wiring connector for the smart door computer where the passenger handle should connect, but since the truck wasn’t programmed for this feature this did not work and I did not include this in the write up, instead we just tap the driver’s door wiring at the computers connector. They are different part numbers (different sizes) so you may also be looking at different sizes and part numbers for what you are looking for.

I appreciate the insight. I don't mind paying the extra $50 in pins for a slightly cleaner install. Would you happen to know or where to find the correct the part numbers for those pins?

Thanks cshrum for the clarification. I'm assuming that the third option is the unpainted matte black handle found on the lowest base model, which is why they don't even have a smart version of this. In any case, I'm probably going to stick with the white, but at least get rid of the chrome accents.

I don’t have that info anymore. You can sign up for a $20 two day membership at techinfo.toyota.com and look though the wiring diagrams.
That’s what I did when finding this info in the first place.
There is a good chance the pins are the same as the pins listed here for the door handle, but since there are at least two different sizes (maybe more) in the door I can’t say for sure, if anyone has their door opened up working on this install they may be able to compare and confirm for you.

Has anyone added more than 1 extra touch handle yet? I'm seriously debating adding the other 3. I find myself wishing I could unlock from any door very often.
