It may look fine, but if it got stretched it could collapse and cause fluid not to flow properly. When I lifted mine, I made a lift block to raise T that is mounted to axle to avoid this, instead of installing extended brake line there.

I’m right there with you on this. I’m fighting a driveline /rear issue that they keep blaming the brakes on.. following this to see how you make out

So this happens intermittently or it's still locked right now?

Even with it in that garage?

If it’s wet and going to freeze later I apply light brake pressure last 100 ft or so to heat the brakes and dry them out.

Are you able to tell whether the shoes are actually engaged and holding tight against the drum and not releasing? At least that would tell you if it is a hydraulic problem or not. When I had my issue, when brake was applied pressure caused the brakes to engage (tighter every time you pumped) but when I let off, the trash would seal from back pressure and keep pressure on that wheel. I am in Louisiana so no freeze problems but I feel your pain - I have way less hair than I used to before all that happened. Pulled most of it out!

Edit: That hose doesn’t look right to me. Does it look a little swollen as it goes away from the wheel towards the frame. Could be the pic but does it bulge a little?

Seems like most (not all) of the people with this issue have a lift. I think the e-brake cable can get snagged up or something to that end.

All I know is I'm halfway through my 4th winter with this truck, plenty of snow, slush, freezing rain, bitter cold you name it. I use the e-brake every single time when parking and not once has a wheel locked up on me.

Yeah I'm not sure I'm not very good with auto work haha but I do know it did it before I put the lift in as well Toyota has been giving me the run around for about 1.5 years regarding it.. still hasn't unlocked waiting to hear back from toyota to try and get it towed to the shop and looked at

You can't jack that tire up and turn the sumbitch by hand?

I used to have a '97 Dodge Caravan (Yes, feel sorry for me) that the E-brake cables would rust so bad that they would "freeze up" every couple of years. I found out about Fluid film about that time luckily. Coated the cables every year, and never had the problem again. I'm not saying that this is the OPs issue, but I think it is good practice.

OP, can you back the drake adjusters off a few turns? That may help.

350$ at Toyota 50$ Tow and this was the ultimate verdict. "Right rear side break shoes get seized due to water and temperatures below 0degrees"

Lol no. Toyota has sold a million 3rd gens since 2016 and they all are not in the south. I had mine in salt and snow and below zero temps. Guess what... no problems. Sorry about yours but it is an exception... not a common occurence.

I had a 78 Chevy that this used to be common for me. I carried a hammer as it would freeze the rear drum. Yet others who had the same truck had no problem.

Last time someone posted this issue, they had just washed the truck the day before. This caused water to get into the drum and freeze overnight.

hitting the drum with a map gas torch for 30 seconds would melt the ice inside of that’s the problem.

mine froze from rust during the summer. Drove through a river then parked on a gravel bar and camped overnight with the e brake on. Took some throttle to get it to break free the next day.

Maybe they "Toyota" need to remove the drums and change the truck to disk all the way around? seems like that would fix the drums from iceing shut....

Sorry that's just crazy talk .

Over Thanksgiving weekend, my truck with a half dead battery and halfway buried in snow had no troubles starting up and driving. Though I did have to dig out the driveway to drive....

I don't think the problem is that common.

There was a thread about rear tire locking up on someones wife coming out of the grocery store. Something about a lift, and not having extended brake lines?
