So if my dclb has a payload capacity of 935lbs (Toyota.ca) and my hitch weight is 325, I’m carrying 175lbs of fuel and 300lbs total combined passengers that leaves me 135 pounds for any extra passengers or supplies?

Adding extra springs will level the truck but actually reduce payload.

EDIT: Ok my bad. Gas isn’t part of payload, it’s already accounted for. But any other mods like tires that increase weight subtract so that has to be considered. So a bit over 300 left when stock.

I think you're on the right track, other than tires. I don't think they count towards payload because they sit on the ground?

Payload is sprung weight. Tires / wheels are unsprung.

But yes, you're moving right for figuring it out. Most folks just think if if will hold it it will haul it.

While Toyota is called a 'midsize' (doesn't that mean there is something smaller? Which is what?) it's actually dimensionally very similar to half tons of just a few years ago. Without the equivalent capacity. More like a light duty full size.......
