    Gents,

I have a rear plate bumper on my 14 and just realized I have a huge fucking problem. I am heading up to Bay Area tomorrow early morning to pickup a dirt bike, so I borrowed one of those tow hitch bike carriers from a buddy of mine.

It's a standard 2" insert and it does not fit. It won't go in at all. Went to a bike shop to see what they got. They had 2 different ones and both had exact same issue. Then I tried a regular trailer hitch hook.... which won't fit either. What gives? What the hell do I do now? I guess I can file that shit down somehow but I don't have tools or time to file inside a 2" square pipe.

Do any of you with this same bumper tow anything?

Too poor to list anything interesting.
I put a bike holder in my hitch and it worked without an issue.

When you say it won't fit... Is the square tube less than 2 inches or is there just issues with seams in the tube?

I guess it's the issue with the seems? I tried to file down the corners a bit, but I guess I need to do more.

    Plethora of "useless" shit
Check to see if there is powder coat/paint on the inside of the receiver? If there is it most likely needs to be removed, had this issue on another brand rear bumper

Do you have a dremel, small drill like an air drill? Should be able to fit a small bit most of the way in. If you can get it down smooth and leave an edge where you reach the deepest, take a sharp chisel and work with small, light blows to maintain an edge to chisel on.

So i've been filing and grinding and dremeling for 40 minutes now. The tow hitch thing wont even go in 1/8".

First photo shows both hitch inserts. The one on the left is the one I bought, hoping i would be able to make it fit before tomorrow morning. The one on the left is my buddy's. Both of them are just a hair under 2". I worked through 4 dremel coarse sanding thingies, and worked that shit with a metal file too.

Neither of these 2 bike mounts would go in even a tiny bit. Last photo shows how much it went in....

Something is definitely not right. It should fit easily with some slack to spare....sounds like they might have used the wrong size square tube

Agreed... Can you measure the inner diameter of the tube? Maybe from the "back" side? (towards front of truck)

I measured the tube with the digital caliper. Exactly 2", but I think the heat from the welding torch may have deformed the end of the pipe or something? I just wish I had appropriate tools to grind that shit down by brute force. I now have 2" square whole standing between me and a dirt bike I got free from a co-worker. I have to drive up to SF anyway but, I guess, I am coming back without the bike and just paying someone to ship it down. Taking the shell off is also not an option. I got my RTT on it, and I will be using it this weekend.

Anyone got a trailer I could borrow... oh.... wait. lol

Towards front of the truck. Spare tire is on the way though and it's raining sand in my eyes, but this should be pretty close. Definitely the right pipe

It may be the PC on the bike rack. I had to tap a buddy's in with a hammer

I'll need to be able to pull it out... but i guess I could always chain it to a tree haha

I tried 3 different ones and a regular trailer hitch. 4:0 bumper wins. I could always take the angle grinder to the one I bought, but then I wont be able to return it and it will rust faster.

When I built my own bumper I didn't have any issues welding pretty hot. It's very thick so it would be tough to deform

I went out and measured mine for you. It is 2.0415 for the receiver, and the hitch is 2.0040. Bumper has powder coat and hitch has fresh paint from when I welded on a longer shaft to clear the license plate when towing.

Will a regular tow hitch go into the receiver? Now I see the response with no. Take the regular hitch and make a mark maybe 3/8 to 1/2" from the end. IF.... you have a tree you can hook to, take a hammer to try and whack it in NO DEEPER than your mark. Yank it out to inspect for fresh marks showing where it is getting held up. Add a very light coat of paint to the end with mark if you have it to make it easier to see where it is hitting for sure before hammering in if you have it. Paint pen will also work.

Try sanding/ grinding and inch or so on the little ridge inside the receiver that runs the length (front to back). Then see if it will go in a little. If so, then that is the issue and what my first thought of it being with my response earlier. Good luck and hope you can get your bike.

We have seen these hitch tubes run on the tight side before, not often but every now and then. As long as you measure side to side, top to bottom it should be over 2", not by much but still clear.
The issue we see most often is the corner radii. The receiver tube is a national standard so it never changes. The hitch inserts sometimes have a very thin wall which translates to a sharper corner radius that will interfere with the receiver tube. Add powdercoat etc and they can get tight pretty quick. I'm guessing the corners are the issue here, the one other time we saw this was exactly that, just a tight corner on a thin wall hitch insert.

Loos like you're in SD. Go to the pelfreybilt shop and tell them your issue. Might not help for the trip up to the bay area, but I'm sure they're willing to warranty their products from a major defect like that.
