    I know, I know
0W20 VS 5W20 has been beat to death. I did nothing but read and read when i saw 0W20 on my oil cap. I am a Pennzoil man and only use Pennzoil. I happened to look at the spec sheets for both weights, and cant find any even slight differences. Even for the cold weather ratings. I have to go online to purchase the 0w20 Ultra platinum right now at $108.99 for 3 5qrt jugs. The 5w20 is only $27 dollars at my local walmart. Id love to have some of you look at these spec sheets and tell me if you can see that the 5w20 would make a difference specifically for this upcoming winter. Thanks for the help and i appologize for starting another oil thread.

I take it you are in a remote location? That comes out to $36.33 a jug or $7.27 a qt. I buy a 6 count/1 qt. box of Mobil-1 Advanced Fuel Economy at Costco when on sale. Prices out to $4.50 a qt.

I was once obsessed with a particular brand. Time cured that problem. Your trucks engine will last no longer with Pennzoil than any other name brand.

Remember, the oil cap under your hood says 0W-20. Use the weight specified in your owners manual.

Is there evidence showing that one oil works better in the Tacoma then anotheroil?

I know for a fact that Subaru's burn Mobile1, and Motul lasts about 3k miles before you hear tapping. But shell T6 will last 5500 miles.

In my wife's Corolla, it would get tappy and burn Pennzoil Platinum at around 4200 miles for the 5k oil change. I switched her over to Mobile1 and got 8k, got it tested and it still had life left. So now we are trying the Mobile1 Extended 15k to see how it handles.

Im due for an oil change (30k) in December so I'd like to figure what route I should be going.

I would have zero problems running 5W-20 where 0W-20 is recommended. I also run 0W-30 where I have 5W-30 recommended. Not even worth thinking about IMO.

Did some comparisons between mobile one and the Pennzoil platinum, and found the Pennzoil platinum lasts about twice as long and has less wear metals. Samples were all done at around 4500 miles each.

This doesn't surprise me too much, the PP is made with more GTL base stocks (more true synth), while the M1 contains more hydrocracked base stock. Were these 0W oils or 5W oils?

I tested 5w-20 oils. The suprising part was that the M1 was showing to be virtually used up after 4500 miles, while the Pennzoil was around 50%.

That is interesting. It would be good to see a comparison with the 0w oils as those should have a much higher percentage of the true synch bases. Unless the marketing bs has gotten the api to change the weight test methods anyway.
