True, bad example on my part. It’s still important to negotiate financing though so you’re not paying extra money in interest that could be used for other things like options.

Crazy how many people get butt hurt every time a thread like this comes up on price. Lots of projecting going on I guess if you feel the need to defend your purchase to a stranger online!

To your main question OP, it's pretty crazy. I would imagine many buyers are financing out past 60 months to afford them or they are just mainly concerned with monthly payment or the truck is even leased. In the town I live in the median income is like 60k and I see trucks worth that much everywhere. Country wide - consumer debt has continued to increase as well as the amount of debt financed. December 2018 the average was $30k financed on an auto loan, up from $26,500 in 2010. There are a ton of great metrics you could use to research it more, but I think the jist of it is buyers extending the lifespan on the loan and having smaller payments accounts for much of it.

ALSO note that you are asking this question on a forum dedicated to Tacoma owners who enjoy spending thousands on mods :) Most everyone has ample cash to spend. Not a great survey pool!

Nothing wrong with debt, bankers gotta eat too. Plus we are just modeling ourselves after our great country. Create debt, die and then owe nothing.

I couldn't agree more. But debt is a pretty broad term. Debt allows you to leverage yourself to success in many ways, however, going into debt over purchasing a TV or something? Not the smartest. Buying a car at a 16% rate? Not the smartest.

I think what people overlook is the total cost of the vehicle with interest. They are so concerned with "payments" Dealers can finance out to 84 months for "payment buyers" That's just nuts.

I am fortunate at my age to be able to pay cash for vehicles (IF I don't get a 2% or under interest rate)

I never bought a vehicle I could not pay off in three years whether that means a large down payment or not. We lease the wife's CRV, IN that case, I never put money down on a lease. Kills the purpose of leasing. We are deciding to pay it off or lease a RAV4 in 9 months when Toyota has Android Auto

So....this thread is ridiculously off topic at the moment. Original post was me, personally, being shocked at the price that a dealership was charging for what is basically putting decals on a truck and calling it a “performance package.”

MOST people, seeing the trucks in this forum are like, “oh yeah, wow!! That’s crazy”. Then the trolls come in. “They are not forced to buy the truck,” “why do you care how they spend their money,” “why is everyone always judging how people spend their money”, and my favorite one was, “well I off-road with my truck with spacers, so there!”

End of the day, the shown truck is overpriced, correct? In fact the shown truck is not even done correctly (garnish missing in possible a non-OEM grill) Anyone who says differently needs to do their due diligence as you so nicely pointed out.

So yes, we can go on and on about [enter off subject topic here] but this thread is going in circles....it ends up getting boring and no longer worth a response....so my responses on this thread end here.

I can’t wait to see the tangent the trolls set this thread off on next

Good thing you’re done with it. Maybe you can now try to figure out what a troll really is. This whole thing must be really confusing to you...

For what it's worth, I've been in sales my entire career. One thing I've learned...never tell the customer what's too-expensive. There's a window-of-opportunity called margin. It's all about supply-and-demand baby, that's capitalism, and to paraphrase, "it sucks...but sucks less then ANY other system".

....^^^... Perhaps, you misread my post .... I was talking about the "Ginger Bread" add-ons by the distributor and/or dealer .... not what was on the TRD Pro as standard equipment.

Personally, I like the Pro ... but not the stuff the distributor and dealer add-ons.

I was talking about non-functional stuff like Toyota guard, plastic paint covering everywhere, and stuff like that

My SR5 even had "Ginger Bread" on it .... plastic hood covering and etc.

Ok, got it. I really don't like the addons by dealerships or Gulf States Toyota with the TSS model. Just a bunch of price raising that does nothing. Now if it adds function then good, if it is just for looks, it's crap. Like my hood scoop on my PRO. I hate it.

I have never found a purpose for leasing an automobile. It seems to be a waste of money.

Pro shocks are gingerbread throw always. Let’s be honest. No one is rebuilding them...when they blow they get replaced with what? Not the oem fox shocks lol. For that money, you’re installing fox 2.5 and tooling up for rebuilds.

I'm okay with a dealership outfitting a few vehicles. What I don't like is when the dealership puts add-ons (like pin-stripping) on every vehicle on the lot.
